Job Description

We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto office. Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.

About the role:

The Manager, Internal Audit at People’s Group plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, effectiveness, and efficiency of the organization’s internal controls, risk management, and governance processes. As a federally regulated financial institution, People’s Group requires a dynamic audit leader with specialized experience in auditing Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and another domain, such as Information Technology (IT) to maintain compliance and foster a culture of operational excellence.

About the day-to-day:

  • Develop, plan, and execute internal audit engagements with a focus on AML and another area (e.g. IT).
  • Assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, policies, and procedures, particularly those related to AML compliance and IT security.
  • Lead investigations and audits related to financial crimes, including money laundering and fraud, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate IT systems, infrastructure, and cybersecurity protocols to identify vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
  • Prepare comprehensive audit reports detailing findings, recommendations, and action plans for management.
  • Monitor and track remediation activities, ensuring timely resolution of audit issues.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization, including compliance, IT, operations, and executive leadership.
  • Stay abreast of evolving regulatory requirements and best practices in AML and IT audit methodologies.
  • Promote a risk-aware culture and provide training or guidance to staff on compliance and IT control matters.

About the qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or related field; professional certifications (CPA, CIA, CISA, CAMS) strongly preferred.
  • A degree in Engineering is also an asset.
  • An MBA is also an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive internal audit experience within financial services, including federal regulatory environments.
  • “Out of the box” thinking, from internal audit experience from outside of financial services (e.g. mining, utilities or other regulated sectors) will also be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated expertise in AML compliance, risk assessment, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., FINTRAC, OSFI).
  • Strong knowledge of IT audit, cybersecurity, and data privacy principles.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities.

About the work environment:

Peoples Group offers a flexible and hybrid work environment. In this role you will work a combination of in-office and remotely from home. Typically, you'll be working regular business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm with flexibility around start/end times.

Hiring process:

Compensation:

The expected salary for this role is approximately $105,000 - 125,000 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
