AIMCo is seeking a strong, strategic, and innovative partner to develop and lead the investment audit program as part of the broader internal audit strategy for AIMCo – a pivotal role in shaping the future of the third line of defense.
As a key manager and contributor in the third line of defence, operating with significant autonomy you will be responsible for the evaluation of the effectiveness of AIMCo’s investment activities, risk management practices, and risk culture across all asset classes. The Investment Risk Assurance director will be involved in all core activities, including the design and implementation of the assurance program and department wide strategic activities. Thematic coverage areas for audit engagements range from strategic and tactical asset allocation, portfolio construction, integrated investment risk management frameworks, stress testing, and investment risk management systems.
Responsibilities Include:
Manages the Internal Audit Investment Risk Assurance discipline.
- Oversees and advances the Internal Audits Entity-Level Investment Risk Assurance Program & Framework to evaluate AIMCo’s Investment Risk internal control structure, governance processes, and risk management practices.
- Oversees the development of the Investment Risk Assurance framework, coverage strategy, and the identification of thematic risks.
- Develops and executes a robust Audit Plan and continuous monitoring across AIMCo’s asset classes in accordance with Internal Audit standards, relevant government statutes, and regulations.
Defines strategies and oversees the delivery of the Risk-Based audit plan and engagement practice
- Develops a risk-based audit plan for the assigned portfolio of accountability and monitor changes as risks evolve.
- Oversees multiple audit engagements concurrently from planning through reporting and produces quality deliverables with regards to departmental and professional standards. Manages complex and technical audits, assurance activities, and assessments of AIMCo’s investment activities. Engagements are of moderate to extremely high complexity.
- Finalize audit findings and use sound professional judgment to provide overall guidance on the control environment able to conclude on whether risks are being effectively managed. Prepares value-added audit reports and recommendations that identify solutions for a variety of complex and unique control issues, crystalizing priorities and risks for management, executive, and the Audit Committee.
- Reports results on the effectiveness of AIMCo’s investment risk controls to Senior Management and Board Committees.
Oversees Audit Automation, Innovation and Advanced Data Analytics
- Oversees the continued evolution and advancement of integrated auditing concepts using technology and advanced analytics automation capabilities.
- Manages the design, implementation, and execution of strategic initiatives; with a focus on enhancing continuous assurance and risk monitoring programs using data analytics and automation of control testing to cover market and regulatory events, investment updates audit/reviews.
Champions Stakeholder Engagement and Business Partnering
- Establish strong relationships with senior managers, including executive management, and related control groups.
- Build committed, cross-functional partnerships with the Executive, senior leaders, and leadership teams to support and enable the improvements to AIMCo’s integrated risk management framework.
- Provide direction, coaching, and training as required, developing strategy and implementing solutions for the evolution and development of holistic Internal Audit capabilities.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Undergraduate in Business, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science or Actuarial Science, Financial Mathematics.
- Completion of CFA, PRM, and / or FRM designations is preferred. Professional accounting, audit, or risk management credentials are highly advantageous (CPA, CIA, or CISA).
- Minimum of 12 years of work experience in the financial services industry and a history of successfully navigating the complexities associated with audit or risk management across multi-asset class managers, including an advanced understanding of public asset classes.
- Deep and broad knowledge of financial markets, financial concepts, investment strategies, investment products (including derivatives), and their underlying risk drivers.
- Strong understanding of the full taxonomy of risks and of AIMCo’s businesses and products with proven experience in delivering a self-managed book of work covering firm-wide, cross-risk initiatives.
- Adept at building relationships with key stakeholders and influencing, negotiating, and developing consensus to drive change.
- Good working knowledge of regulatory expectations and industry best practices in risk governance and related areas
- Experience with Governance, Risk & Compliance technology tools & analytical tools
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to AIMCo’s core values of excellence, transparency, humility, integrity and collaboration, and inspires the same in others
One Year Success Measures:
Establishment of an effective and scalable Investment Risk Assurance Program and delivery of assurance engagements targeting risks relevant AIMCo’s investment and corporate objectives.
