The City of Greeley Water & Sewer Department is seeking an intern who is interested in providing financial forecasting support to the Utility Finance team for a growing, dynamic community. With the Water and Sewer Utility Finance team, you will work with other dedicated employees to enhance Greeley’s long term financial planning helping to ensure that needed infrastructure and other improvements to the Water and Sewer systems can be paid for. The Utility Finance team uses data collected on customer water use, wastewater production and numerous external sources to forecast future needs. Ensuring that both expense and revenue forecasts are as accurate as possible while accounting for the unknown is key to planning the future for the city. The Utility Finance intern will support this forecasting by working to ensure the data needed is collected and collated appropriately, analyzing that data to seek long term trends in customer demands, and quantifying the underlying variability. The team aims in 2025 and 2026, to make significant improvements in the forecasting of multi-family account demands by improving the quality of data available and exploring various approaches to the forecasting effort. On the expenditure side of the problem, the team needs an accurate evaluation of the marginal cost of producing water and treating wastewater for the city to help department leadership understand the impact that changes in customer use will have on expenditures. Duties include exploring a variety of internal and external data sources, using data analysis software such as R or Python to collate and analyze that data, and preparing reports in Excel for communicating the data to stakeholders and leaders. The position requires a self-motivated candidate who can work independently, is familiar with data analysis software and Excel, and can evaluate data sources. Some driving may be required as part of the data collection effort.
