About the Position:

This internship supports the development of spray drying processes for pigments and related materials. This role will focus on improving process efficiency, reducing cycle time, and enabling scalable material processing. The intern will work closely with a technical mentor on a defined project with clear deliverables.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct spray drying experiments to establish baseline conditions
  • Optimize process parameters (e.g., temperature, feed rate, atomization)
  • Characterize material properties (particle size, morphology, dispersibility)
  • Compare spray-dried materials with wet-processed materials
  • Document results, analyze data, and summarize findings
  • Present results and recommendations at the end of the internship

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Experience with spray drying or similar unit operations
  • Familiarity with particle characterization techniques (e.g., DLS, TGA, Zeta potential, SEM etc.)
  • Experience with data analysis tools (Excel, jmp, Python, etc.)
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Hands-on laboratory experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Benefits:

The anticipated base pay for this position is $30-40 per hour, DOE, for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area.
