The Intern, R&D, Electrical Engineering will actively support the team in the deep-level troubleshooting, repair, and assembly of fielded electromechanical systems. This part-time, hands-on role focuses on electrical board-level fixes, system bring-up, cable harness fabrication, and mechanical assembly. This position is intended for electrical engineering students with a strong practical technical background.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform hands-on board-level repairs, component replacements, and precision soldering under engineering guidance.
  • Assist in the electrical bring-up, testing, and troubleshooting of prototype hardware and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Fabricate, route, terminate, and repair custom cable harnesses and wiring assemblies.
  • Execute basic mechanical assembly and integration tasks to support the build of R&D test units and prototypes.
  • Safely and effectively operate test equipment according to manuals, work instructions, or industry standards to validate fixes.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical assembly drawings to execute complex repairs.
  • Maintain accurate repair documentation, logging failure modes and corrective actions for fielded systems.
  • Must follow all required ISO procedures, comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements, and adhere to SIG SAUER, Inc. security mandates.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Cross functional efforts with other engineering concentrations within test engineering as needed.

Education/Experience & Skills:

  • Enrolled in a degree program for Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Available to work part-time, 2 to 3 days per week.
  • Practical technical background acquired through IDF technological/technical units or previous hands-on industry experience is highly preferred.
  • Proven hands-on skills in soldering (SMD/Through-hole), cable crimping, and deep-level (Level D) electronics repair.
  • Basic proficiency in reading and understanding complex electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Must have basic proficiency using Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, in English, both verbally and in written form.

Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
