Job Description:

Duration/Hours:

June 7, 2027 – August 13, 2027

Pay rate is $25/hour for undergraduate students, $30/hour for graduate students, and $35/hour for PHD/Law students

Full-time; 37.5 hours per week

Based in Washington, DC, with an expectation to work onsite at least two days per week.

ABA’s Internship provides students with a paid opportunity to work with one of the biggest trade associations in Washington, DC. This extremely selective opportunity provides students with the opportunity to do substantial work in various divisions across ABA, connect with leadership, build a network, and make a difference.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collect, organize and analyze financial statement data of non-bank financial institutions (NBFI), traditional banks and NBFIs that turn into banks.
  • Identify and track emerging trends in the NBFI acquisition of traditional commercial banks.
  • Research on the differences in business models, funding sources and expense structure between NBFIs turned into banks and traditional banks
  • Prepare research summaries, charts and briefing materials to support senior team members in policy analysis and developing insights.

Required Skills

  • Strong foundation in financial statement analysis (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow).
  • Proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools (e.g., pivot tables, financial ratios, basic modeling).
  • Experience with Python or R for data cleaning, statistical analysis, and visualization.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work independently under guidance from senior staff.
  • Curiosity about financial markets, banking, and regulatory developments, with a willingness to explore emerging trends in the economy and financial market.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited institution pursuing an undergraduate degree, graduate degree, or PHD with an expected graduation date of December 2027 or later.
  • Completion of coursework in macroeconomics, microeconomics and accounting; additional finance or banking courses a plus.
  • Preferred fields of study: Economics, Finance, Statistics and Quantitative Analytics

Salary Band Range:

$15.00 - $37.50 - $60.00
