Lumentum (LITE) is a global leader in optical communications, industrial lasers, and 3D sensing.​ Lumentum Switzerland AG is a key design center for ultrafast (nano-/pico-/femto-second) laser systems.

We are looking for a motivated MFG Process Engineering Intern to support the development, optimization, and documentation of optical assembly processes using UV-curable epoxies

The position will be limited to minimum 6 months and maximum 1 year.

This internship offers hands-on experience at the interface of optics, mechanics, materials, and manufacturing, in a high-tech industrial R&D environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Characterization, reliability and repeatability studies of optical assemblies

  • Improvement and validation of processes and tools for automated assembly of optical components with UV curable epoxies (placement, dispensing, curing, measurement)

  • Use of test and measurement equipment for laser characterization (autocorrelators, power meters, spectrometers, oscilloscopes, optical and RF spectrum analyzers, etc.)

  • Cross-functional collaboration with the process, optical, mechanical and automation engineering teams

  • Analyse and present experimental results to a wider team

  • Write work instructions and other documentation (English)

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor/Master degree in, Physics, Optical Engineering, Mechanical or Micro Engineering, Materials Science or related field

  • Basic understanding of geometric optics, tolerances, metrology, manufacturing processes

  • Strong hands-on mindset and attention to detail

  • Prior experience (project, course, internship) working in a lab with small components assembly and/or lasers

  • Teamwork orientation with good communication skills

  • Fluency in English (oral and written)

  • Some programming knowledge (Python)

  • Self-motivated, able to plan tasks and adhere to agreed deadlines

Preferred:

  • Experience with UV curing epoxy or other adhesives is a plus

  • Experience with reliability testing or device qualification (temp cycling, HTOL, S&V or others) is a plus
