You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to the development and digitalization of process models used in the manufacturing operations of a diverse range of pharmaceutical products. As an intern, you will contribute to research leveraging techniques such as process modeling, statistical analysis, and data engineering, to advance our digital capability and ensure product quality.

Key Responsibilities:

You will contribute to our ongoing activities focused on modeling film coating operation for synthetics drug products. The project is designed to deepen our mechanistic understanding of the operation, accelerate technical transfer, and provide a better control of the production. You will be responsible for one or more of the following areas: upgrading existing models, applying models to the real-world data, evaluating model performance and building user-friendly apps for the models.

Typical day-to-day activities for this position can include:

• Conduct literature review
• Translate physical and chemical understanding into mathematical formulations
• Develop model upgrades and embed them into existing codes
• Perform data extraction and curation from multi-sourced datahubs or documents
• Convert models to apps and deploy them on designated platforms
• Documentation of all the activities
• Interacting with business partners and cross-functional researchers in English.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Enrolled in a bachelor, master or doctorate degree program with a strong Chemical Engineering, Biological & Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanic Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent background
• Legally authorized to work in China and not require sponsorship for employment visa status now or in the future
• Proficiency in Python (incl. pandas, pydantic, scipy, etc), or other programming languages
• Mastering algebraic knowledge and knowledge of ordinary differential equations (ODEs)
• Self-motivated, productive, and possessing excellent scientific problem-solving skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multicultural team environment, with excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Chinese

Preferred:

• Experience with modeling a physicochemical phenomenon through knowledge- or data-driven methods
• Familiarity with pharmaceutical processes, especially film coating.
• Experience with app development.
