About the Internship

WBTW News13, a Nexstar Media Group station, is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic News Intern to join our award-winning newsroom. This internship provides students with hands-on experience in a professional broadcast television environment while allowing them to apply classroom knowledge to real-world newsroom operations.

Interns will work alongside experienced journalists and media professionals, gaining valuable exposure to news gathering, story development, content production, and newsroom workflows. This is a supervised educational experience designed to support academic and professional growth.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Observe and participate in daily newsroom activities and editorial meetings.
  • Assist with story research, fact gathering, and content preparation.
  • Shadow reporters, producers, photographers, and newsroom staff.
  • Help monitor news sources, social media platforms, and community events.
  • Assist with digital content and newsroom projects as assigned.
  • Learn best practices in broadcast journalism, ethical reporting, and newsroom operations.
  • Participate in a structured learning experience aligned with college program requirements.
  • Perform assigned tasks in a professional and timely manner while adhering to company policies and standards.

Internship Details

  • Internship schedule and hours will be determined by the student's college or university program requirements.
  • One internship position is available within the News Department.
  • Interns will be supervised by station professionals and provided meaningful learning opportunities.
  • Interns are expected to adhere to Nexstar Media Group's standards of conduct, professionalism, and zero-tolerance policies.
  • Upon successful completion of the internship, interns may be evaluated as required by their academic institution.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and currently pursuing a degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field.
  • Must be a senior in the final year of concentrated post-high school study.
  • Demonstrated interest in broadcast journalism and local news.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced skill level appropriate for the complexity of assigned projects.
  • Eagerness to learn and receive constructive feedback.
  • Must be eligible to receive academic credit if required by the educational institution.
