Job Description

Intern, meoSphere System Modeling (UI)

Are you looking for a 6‑month internship? This is an opportunity to be part of the Modeling and Simulation team in an innovative satellite organization. As the space industry evolves, our need for advanced graphical, visualization, and interactive simulation tools grows alongside increasingly complex satellite systems. Today’s constellations and 5G NTN architectures require high‑performance graphical simulators to effectively explore, analyze, and communicate system behavior.

Based in Betzdorf, Luxembourg, you will contribute to the development of a cutting‑edge graphical simulator, focused on 5G NTN and Optical Inter‑Satellite Links, enabling interactive visualization of satellite constellations, network behavior, and performance metrics. You will collaborate with experts in telecommunications, simulation, software engineering, and aerospace to design and implement compelling visual representations of complex systems. Your work will support concrete projects such as mesosphere, Pathfinder and IRIS2.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

Collaborate with the team on the design and development of interactive frontend/backend components for a constellation simulator. Develop high‑performance 2D/3D visualizations of satellite constellations, links, coverage, and 5G NTN elements using web or game‑engine technologies. Integrate frontend components with simulator APIs to display, explore, and interact with simulation results such as coverage, latency, and link behavior. Contribute to user experience (UX) design to make complex satellite and 5G NTN concepts accessible and intuitive. Iteratively improve the simulator frontend based on user feedback, performance constraints, and evolving project requirements

COMPETENCIES

  • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Proficiency with DevOps tools (e.g. git)
  • Strong command of spoken and written English.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Currently be pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Game Development, Interactive Media, or a related field.
  • Experience building interactive applications, with interest in performance‑sensitive or real‑time environments
  • Have a strong interest in frontend development, interactive visualization, real‑time graphics, and simulation tools, particularly in technically complex domains.
  • Have general knowledge of software development concepts (application architecture, software stack fundamentals, Linux usage, basic system administration, APIs, and development tooling).
  • Have some familiarity or curiosity about telecommunications or large‑scale systems (e.g., networks, latency, system behavior), with willingness to learn satellite constellation concepts

In addition, it would be nice if you had:

  • Knowledge of WebGL or equivalent technologies such as WebGPU, OpenGL, Three.js, Babylon.js, or similar frameworks for building high‑performance interactive 3D experiences.
  • Experience with game engines or real‑time rendering frameworks (e.g., Unity, Unreal, custom engines).
  • Familiarity with data visualization techniques for large or dynamic datasets. Interest in or basic familiarity with satellite systems, aerospace engineering, or telecommunications concepts.
  • Basic understanding of SatCom or constellation concepts (satellite constellations, orbits, links), or motivation to learn.
  • Any experience combining visualization or UI development with simulation or technical backends.
  • Additional language skills considered an asset.

OTHER KEY REQUIREMENTS / COMMENTS

  • Authorization to work in Luxembourg
