Spring 2027 Part -Time Internship – Santa Monica, CA

January 11, 2027 – May 14, 2027

WHAT AWAITS YOU.

  • Assist the Interaction Design team and contribute as a content-creating project team member for BMW Brands, internal initiatives, and external clients.
  • Work on projects spanning multiple industries, including automotive, consumer products, capital equipment, and public transportation/infrastructure.
  • Participate in investigations involving traditional digital methods (desktop, app, screen) as well as new interaction methods (AR, VR, haptics, gesture, phygital).
  • Support the team with contextual research for various client projects.
  • Assist in creating design proposals for diverse client projects.
  • Contribute to research and development of new tools and technologies within the Interaction Design team.
  • Support the LA studio with internal initiatives across different departments.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR.

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program at an accredited college or university.
  • US Work Authorization required.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (overall, not just major).
  • Completed at least 60 college credit hours at the time of application.
  • Ability to work full-time (20 - 29 hours/week).
  • Must submit an unofficial college transcript with your application.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING.

  • Field of Study: Graphic Design, Interaction Design, User Experience Design (UX), or Human-Computer Interaction (HCI).
  • Business fluent English.
  • Proficiency in design tools like Sketch, Figma, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiar with prototyping tools like Figma, ProtoPie, or Framer
  • Understanding of core design principles: hierarchy, typography, layout, color, and an evolving sense of form.
  • Curiosity about AI and familiarity with current tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, Figma AI, Midjourney, or similar) as part of your workflows, design and research process.
  • A Portfolio is required and should live and breathe digital, showcasing interaction design through flows, prototyping, motion, animation, micro-interactions, and real user behaviors rather than static visual design alone.
  • Proof strong sense of aesthetics, visual craft, and detail, with the curiosity and creative bandwidth to explore and push new design languages, trends, and visual expressions.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position. This is a hybrid role that requires in office days at the Santa Monica, CA office.

Undergraduate students: Hourly rate is $25.30.

Graduate students: Hourly rate is $32.20.

The selected student's academic level will be used to determine the final pay rate. This statement is in accordance with state and local pay disclosure requirements.
