Working Hours:

Clearing Intern: 9am to 6pm

Market Operations Intern: 10am to 7pm

Clearing House (Derivatives)

Brief Overview:

The Derivatives Clearing House team is responsible for the clearing and settlement operations of Singapore Exchange (SGX) Derivatives, ensuring that all trades are processed accurately, securely, and in compliance with regulatory standards. The team manages the full lifecycle of derivatives transactions—from post trade management and margining to money settlement and risk mitigation—while optimizing collateral usage and maintaining operational resilience.

1) Product development: Derivatives products from concepts to life

2) Market management: monitor and manage the Derivatives market by leveraging on technology and tools

3) Risk management: manage counterparty risk through daily cycle mark-to-market, margining and collateral management

Learning Objectives:

Selected intern would undergo a structured internship program with the following exposure

Technical Development (70%)

  • Singapore’s Derivatives market, rules and processes under the guidance of experienced and passionate mentors.
  • Tools and technologies for market management (e.g. CW2, Titan OTC, SWIFT)
  • Derivatives business products knowledge (e.g. Negotiated large trades of listed Equities, Commodities, Foreign Exchange derivatives products)
  • Derivatives clearing processes, systems, rules and concepts (e.g. Daily Settlement Cycle, Margin calls)
  • Collateral management - Learn about different types of collateral (e.g. cash, government securities) and participate in daily collateral movements and reconciliations.
  • Learn how to handle day to day exceptions.

Market Operations Intern

Short overview on the Unit/Team

Derivatives Market Operations (DMO) is responsible for the end-to-end management of SGX's derivatives market operations, ensuring markets operate efficiently, fairly, and resiliently. The team oversees the derivatives product lifecycle, market operations, and operational risk controls while supporting business growth and market integrity.

Product Development: Bring derivatives products from concept to launch, including contract setup, lifecycle management, and implementation of new products and enhancements.

Market Management: Oversee the day-to-day operation of the derivatives market, leveraging technology, data, and operational controls to support fair, orderly, and efficient trading.

Risk Management: Safeguard market stability through settlement price determination, operational controls, issue management, and robust processes that support effective risk management across the derivatives ecosystem.

Operational Excellence: Drive process improvements, automation, and operational transformation initiatives to enhance efficiency, scalability, and service quality.

Learning Objectives

Selected interns will undergo a structured internship programme designed to provide hands-on exposure to the operations of a leading derivatives exchange, while developing technical, professional, and cross-functional competencies.

Technical Development (70%)

Derivatives Market Operations

  • Gain an understanding of Singapore's derivatives market structure, trading rules, market processes, and product lifecycle under the guidance of experienced practitioners.

Market Management

  • Gain exposure to market monitoring, contract lifecycle management, and incident handling using industry tools and technologies.

Derivatives Product Knowledge

  • Develop knowledge of listed derivatives products across Equities, Commodities, Foreign Exchange, and Interest Rates.
  • Understand how new products are developed, launched, and maintained throughout their lifecycle.

Settlement Price & Risk Management

  • Learn the principles and methodologies behind Daily Settlement Price (DSP) determination and its role in clearing and risk management.

Data Analytics & Automation

  • Apply data analysis and automation techniques to improve operational efficiency and strengthen controls.

Exception & Incident Management

  • Learn how operational exceptions and market incidents are identified, assessed, communicated, and resolved in a timely manner.

Corporate & Functional Training

  • Participate in SGX-wide learning programmes and functional training sessions.

Stakeholder Management

  • Develop communication and collaboration skills through interactions with internal stakeholders (e.g. Business, Risk, Technology and Regulatory), and external stakeholders (e.g. market participants).
