Job Description

Description of the company:

An architecture and interiors firm in Calgary with a collaborative studio culture, where technologists work closely with the design team, an Associate Technical Director, and the Partners. The firm has its own standards and invests in getting new people up to speed on projects before handing them full ownership. It's a social office that values people who contribute to team discussions and events as well as their drawing sets.

Team is growing! They've gotten new clients and exciting projects and are getting busier.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as production lead on projects, owning the technical quality of drawings, permit submissions, and tender sets
  • Run construction documents and contract administration independently on smaller projects, and as part of a team on larger ones
  • Perform building code reviews at key stages and bring in management reviews at the right points
  • Advise on building envelope and performance throughout the project
  • Coordinate structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, envelope, and kitchen equipment scopes with the design intent, with redlines to the design team and comments to consultants
  • Review specifications and coordinate scope with the spec writer
  • Liaise with planning departments and building inspectors on permits and approvals
  • Carry out site reviews, write field reports, and handle CA in the office and on site
  • Oversee and review the work of trainee technologists and junior technical staff
  • Keep project records, meeting minutes, and milestone filing organized and current

Must-haves:

  • 4+ years as an Architectural Technologist, including time leading production on projects
  • Diploma or degree in architectural technology or a related field
  • Strong working knowledge of the Alberta Building Code
  • Experience producing construction documents and permit sets start to finish
  • Contract administration experience, including site reviews and field reports
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (primarily), some projects in Revit

Nice-to-haves:

  • AATA registration
  • Building envelope and building performance expertise
  • Hospitality or restaurant project experience, including kitchen equipment coordination
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing junior technologists
  • Comfortable sketching technical ideas by hand

Work style: Full-time in office in Calgary with some WFH flexibility

Compensation: Intermediate - $70,000 - $80,000, Senior - $80,000+

Compensation Disclosure

Compensation for all roles Axis recruits for is multi-faceted and based on a range of factors including experience, skills, location, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may include performance-based bonuses, incentives, and a comprehensive benefits offering, in accordance with applicable Employment Standards Code requirements.
