Job Description

emergiTEL is hiring for an  Intermediate Mechanical Engineer for our client in the healthcare and nuclear technology industry. This is a Permanent role.
Compensation: $80,000 - $100,000/year
Location: Ottawa, ON

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of engineering principles and standards
  • Lead or participate in the design, licensing, and manufacture of sealed sources and transport packages
  • Lead design processes, coordinate prototype manufacturing, and review/approve engineering drawings
  • Prepare engineering analysis, calculations, and test specifications
  • Coordinate and execute testing, compile results, and generate technical reports
  • Design or modify production processes and equipment
  • Lead mechanical engineering projects, ensuring delivery within defined budgets, schedules, and functionality requirements
  • Stay current with manufacturing processes and equipment capabilities to support internal stakeholders
  • Provide task guidance and quality control for team members
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience preferred
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for accreditation
Skills and Competencies:
  • Design and engineering analysis of mechanical systems and components
  • Design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical or electromechanical equipment
  • Development, refinement, and documentation of manufacturing processes
  • Strong understanding of engineering judgment in complex, non-standard scenarios
  • Ability to provide technical recommendations and guidance with limited supervision
Assets:
  • Experience in the nuclear industry, especially with equipment in hot cells
  • Familiarity with automated welding technologies and equipment
  • Knowledge of radiation resistance of materials and components
  • Understanding of leak testing methods for critical systems
Additional Competencies:
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to explain complex technical and regulatory topics to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills
Additional Requirements:
  • Occasional overtime to meet project demands
  • Occasional travel required
Training:
  • Completion of all required training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker
