Job Description

Intermediate Landscape Architect
Calgary, AB

Strong communities do not just happen—they are thoughtfully designed and carefully delivered. Our Community Development team creates landscapes that are creative, technically sound, and responsive to how people live, move, and connect. We collaborate across disciplines to deliver places that are equitable, resilient, and enduring.

Your Opportunity

Our Calgary studio is seeking a full‑time Intermediate Landscape Architect to join our Planning and Landscape Architecture team. This role supports the planning, design, and delivery of public and private landscape projects across a wide range of scales and typologies, from early concept development through construction and closeout. This role is intentionally positioned as intermediate, with space to grow. It offers hands‑on project leadership, exposure to a wide variety of work and clients, and the opportunity to shape your path within a collaborative studio environment.

This position is well‑suited to an intermediate practitioner who is confident contributing to, and increasingly leading, projects day‑to‑day, eager to take on increasing responsibility, and motivated to grow into greater leadership over time. Working closely with the landscape architecture team, planners, engineers, and multidisciplinary project teams, you will contribute design leadership, technical expertise, and professional judgment while continuing to build your role within the studio.

Core Role & Responsibilities

  • Support and help lead landscape architecture projects day‑to‑day, contributing across all phases from concept, design development through construction documentation and construction administration
  • Contribute to concept development, including site analysis, design narratives, spatial organization, grading strategies, planting concepts, and material selection
  • Prepare, review, and guide design development and construction drawings in collaboration with the project team
  • Contribute to design reviews, presentation materials, and public‑facing graphics
  • Delegate tasks appropriately and oversee work to ensure design intent, quality, and consistency across project deliverables
  • Foster a supportive and collaborative team environment, contributing to positive project culture and mentorship
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines (civil, planning, architecture, environmental) and external consultants to resolve design and technical challenges
  • Apply sound professional judgment to problem‑solving related to constructability, site constraints, and project objectives
  • Participate in construction administration activities including field reviews, contractor coordination, responses to RFIs, and deficiency reviews
  • Balance multiple concurrent projects while managing deadlines, scope, and quality expectations
  • Ensure project deliverables align with municipal standards, approval authority requirements, and client expectations
  • Project planning, proposal response and scope of work definition, financial project management and oversight

Client & Project Exposure

  • Work across a broad range of project types and clients, including municipal, institutional, private development, and community‑based work
  • Support projects within the urban realm, naturalization and restoration initiatives, parks and open spaces, and community‑focused landscapes
  • Build client relationships over time, supporting project delivery, coordination, and trust as part of longer‑term client partnerships
  • Contribute to a studio environment with adaptable career path, where growth is shaped by interests, strengths, and project opportunities
  • Play a meaningful role in the continued growth and evolution of the Calgary landscape architecture practice

Future / Growth Responsibilities (As Opportunities Arise)

While not required at this time, the successful candidate may be supported to grow into the following areas:

  • Take on increased responsibility for leading project components or smaller projects under the guidance of our team’s senior partitioners and senior landscape architects
  • Participate more actively in client, consultant, and stakeholder meetings
  • Assist with proposal development, scope definition, and fee planning
  • Support mentoring and development of our entry level designers and technologists.
