Description of the company:

Our client is an 11-person Toronto interior design studio working almost exclusively on residential projects across the GTA, with the occasional commercial project (recent work includes Summerhill Market) and select projects outside the region. The principals are hands-on and work closely with the senior designers, the studio runs on established design processes, and new design software is rolling out in the new year.

Why is this role open:

Each of the studio's senior designers runs a portfolio of projects with a dedicated support designer behind them, and the studio is adding an intermediate designer to provide that support across several active projects at once. This is a production-focused role with no direct client or consultant exposure, which makes it a strong place to build your skills before stepping into a client-facing seat.

Responsibilities:

• Handle the day-to-day production of drawings, documents, and design packages across several active projects, each at a different phase.
• Produce plans, elevations, millwork drawings, and finish schedules in AutoCAD, and mark up and issue documents in Bluebeam.
• Build client presentations, coordinate schedules, and source materials, finishes, and furnishings under the direction of your Senior Designer.
• Keep your own work organized and on track, and check in with your Senior proactively rather than waiting to be checked on.
• Contribute to the studio's design process and help the seniors keep projects moving.
• Attend site occasionally as a learning opportunity.

Must-haves:

• 1 to 3 years of interior design experience. More junior candidates with strong fundamentals will be considered.
• Education in interior design from an accredited program. Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) graduates have done very well here.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
• Strong critical thinking and close attention to detail.
• Self-directed and organized, and comfortable juggling several projects at different stages.
• Able to work in the studio in Toronto full time.
• Legally eligible to work in Canada, and able to pass a criminal record check before an offer.

Nice-to-haves:

• SketchUp.
• ARIDO registration. Not required, but valued and reflected in compensation.
• Residential experience with custom millwork, kitchens, and baths.
• Experience supporting more than one designer or project lead at a time.

Work style:

Full-time, in the studio in Toronto, with half-day Fridays all year round and a 40-hour week that includes lunch. Your days are primarily design and production, with occasional site visits. You will report to a Senior Designer who manages the project and owns the client and consultant relationships, and you will join the whole team for the Monday morning meeting. Birthday celebrations and trade days are part of studio life.

Compensation Disclosure

Compensation for all roles Axis recruits for is multi-faceted and based on a range of factors including experience, skills, location, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, the total compensation package may include performance-based bonuses, incentives, and a comprehensive benefits offering, in accordance with applicable Employment Standards Act (ESA) requirements.
