Purpose of the Role

At Worley Consulting, we help customers manage environmental liabilities and support effective site restoration across the asset lifecycle.

As an Intermediate Environmental Scientist, Engineer or Technologist you will play a key role in delivering assessment and remediation programs for contaminated sites.

This role blends field leadership with technical and project support responsibilities. You will lead field programs, contribute to environmental assessments, mentor team members, and support project delivery—helping ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high technical standard.

For individuals with extensive field experience who are ready to step into a broader leadership role, this position offers a clear pathway to grow technical, supervisory, and project leadership capability within Worley’s Liability Management and Restoration team.

This position is based out of Worley’s Cold Lake, Alberta field office.Willingness to be based near or relocate to Cold Lake is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate environmental field programs, including surface water and groundwater monitoring and sampling, soil sampling, drilling, borehole logging, well installations, test pitting, remedial excavations, and reclamation activities.
  • Complete Phase 1 and Phase 2 environmental site assessments in accordance with applicable Alberta provincial guidelines and standards.
  • Spend 75% of time in the field, with the remaining time focused on office-based technical and project support.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and on-the-job training to junior team members and new hires.
  • Support Project Managers with project execution, including planning, scheduling, task delivery, and issue resolution.
  • Assist with project communication, cost tracking, and coordination to support effective program delivery.
  • Prepare, implement, and promote site-specific health, safety, and sustainability plans to help identify, reduce, or eliminate risks to people, clients, and the public.
  • Prepare clear, accurate technical reports and documentation that meet regulatory and client requirements.

Qualifications / Skill Set

  • Diploma or Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline from an accredited institution, along with relevant continuing education.
  • 3 years of practical environmental field experience, with demonstrated experience in contaminated site assessment and remediation in Alberta.
  • Individuals with 8 or more years of related environmental field experience who are looking to grow into a formal leadership role will also be considered.
  • Experience coordinating and supervising environmental fieldwork programs is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proven ability to mentor and support the development of less-experienced team members.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid computer skills and confidence working with standard office and reporting tools.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and willing to take on a broad range of responsibilities as project needs evolve.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Previous experience supporting oil and gas projects is preferred.
  • Willingness to be based near, or relocate to Cold Lake, Alberta.
