Summary Description:
The primary responsibility of the Exterior Maintenance Horticulture Technician is to perform landscape maintenance tasks with care and efficiency. In order to ensure the highest level of services are provided, additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Perform landscape maintenance tasks on customer’s property including, but not limited to:
Maintenance of trees, shrubs, perennial and seasonal flowers.
Use of hand shears, hand pruners and hand loppers. Gas and electric equipment such as: power shears, power blowers, mowers, line trimmers and blowers
Mowing, edging, blowing fertilizer application, weed control, bed raking, trimming and pruning.
Perform all regular tasks including but not limited to leaf and debris removal.
Watering containers, beds and hanging baskets as needed.
Exceed client’s expectations by providing professional, courteous and efficient service at all times.
Project a “good company image” at all times.
Ensure a professional appearance, good hygiene and a clean uniform
Understand and uphold Exterior Maintenance Department Quality Standards.
Able to work effectively both individually and in a team with minimal supervision; able to make decisions using own initiative. Assume responsibility for own work and for performing tasks correctly.
Follow direction and guidance provided by Crew Leads and Management Team.
Report problems or concerns regarding accounts to Exterior Maintenance Crew Lead or Supervisor.
Must drive a company vehicle when needed.
Work vehicle maintenance:
Maintain clean vehicle at all times, ensuring interior and exterior cleanliness.
Remove personal items from vehicles daily (lunchboxes, cell phones, garbage, etc.).
Adhere to Company maintenance inspection policy.
Report any and all accidents (regardless of nature and severity) immediately.
Wash truck weekly and keep cab interior clean and organized.
Complete monthly Vehicle Inspections and complete required paperwork.
Responsible for managing equipment including but not limited to:
Report problems/concerns with equipment and tools or need for tools/equipment and supplies
Keeping track of issued tools at all times.
Keep tools in working order ensuring they are clean, sharp, organized, and labeled accordingly.
Keep power equipment secured with cable and lock when in truck and not in use.
Keep tools and equipment organized and secure when on job sites.
Is aware of and concerned with the daily goals and expectations of the Crew Lead. When covering for a Crew Lead, must report concerns regarding accounts to Supervisor or Manager on a same-day basis.
Ensure working hours, including overtime, have been recorded accurately and truthfully for each time period worked.
Ensure interior and exterior work sites are restored to original condition, or better if necessary-- without holes, exposed pipes or gravel, footprints in beds or in-terior spaces, exposed roots, or soil/debris on surrounding hardscape upon completion of work.
Continue own education by staying informed of industry trends, learning new skills and asking questions when appropriate.
Participate in company LEAN activities and maintain areas as assigned.
Monitor Salesforce, emails, and phone messages throughout workday and respond in a timely manner, always following the company “Sunset Rule” for internal and external communications.
Update and utilize Salesforce in daily work, keeping accurate and up-to-date records on all accounts.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ensure knowledge of the appropriate safety and environmental revisions. Handle plants and tools with care, being concerned with safety and security. Immediately report safety concerns to Crew Lead.
Set a positive example by displaying a pleasant and approachable demeanor and remaining friendly and courteous at all times.
Is aware of and actively supports the achievement of departmental goals.
Proactive team player, strong follow through, quick decision making abilities and able to problem-solve in a fast pace environment.

Level Requirements:
Minimum of one (1) year horticultural education or equivalent experience.
Tropical horticultural background preferred
Must have a valid Drivers License and maintain a clean driving record.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20-40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Varied Field Environment performing outdoor work with moderate to occasional loud noise.
