Job Description

We are looking for a seasoned freelance Marketing Director to lead our marketing team of approximately 15–20 people on an interim basis, covering a maternity leave. The scope is international, with Troostwijk Auctions as the lead brand across the Benelux and Continental Europe.
This is not a holding role. The team is capable but developing, and they need a leader who is genuinely hands-on. Someone who spots what's not working, fixes it, and brings people along. At the same time, we need someone who can hold the strategic thread and contribute at MT level to commercial direction. Marketing is evolving fast. We want someone who lives that reality and helps us stay ahead, from channels and tooling to ways of working and AI-driven workflows.

What you will own:

You take full ownership of marketing across all disciplines. You don't just oversee, you can dive in, raise the bar, and bring the team with you:

CRM

• Lifecycle and segmentation for buyers and sellers

• Email and cadence strategy – with a strong focused on activation and conversion, not volume

• Drive quality of communication over quantity


Performance Marketing

• Paid channels such as Google Ads/Meta with sharp focus on ROI, CPA, and conversion

• Allocate budget to the right buyers for the right lots

• Ensure measurable return on every euro spent


Brand Marketing

• Protect and develop the Troostwijk brand with consistency across international markets, with a big brand campaign launch in 2027

• Support the ongoing European brand consolidation, finding synergies and consistency for the Benelux and Continental focus countries


Seller Marketing

• Campaign and proposition development for our seller segments: traders, brokers, insolvency, corporate, and international

• Focus on acquisition and conversion, both digitally as well as offline or through other tests


Tailor-Made Campaigns

• Bespoke campaigns for high-value lots and signature auctions, rolled out internationally

• Ensure we are creating the right level of personalization at the right volume and most efficiently

Your place in the organization:

• Member of the Benelux Management Team and will be contributing to commercial direction at that level and close collaboration with RGM Continental/team

• Close day-to-day collaboration with Product, Tech, and Commercial: most marketing impact lives at those intersections

• You're the connective tissue across functions, and you know how to make that work in practice

What we are looking for:

Non-negotiables

• Proven experience managing and developing marketing teams of 10+ people, including in teams that need lifting

• Track record in high-pressure, fast-moving commercial environments. B2B, marketplace, auction, or similar a big plus

• Genuinely hands-on: you can write a brief, read a dashboard, rewrite copy, or sit in a campaign review and add real value

• Breadth across disciplines such as CRM, performance, brand, and campaigns, with enough depth in each to set the standard yourself

• Strong cross-functional instincts: you bring Product, Tech, and Commercial together rather than working around them

Mindset & Approach

• You lead with clarity and accountability which makes people know what's expected and feel supported to deliver it

• You're a practitioner, not just a manager: comfortable rolling up your sleeves when it matters

• You have a sharp eye for what's underperforming and the directness to address it, both in work and in people

• AI-forward: you actively use AI and automation to make the team faster and smarter, not just as a talking point

• Comfortable operating independently from day one in an international, commercially and data driven environment

• Fluent in Dutch and English (required)
