Job Description

Warbird Healthcare Advisors actively seeks qualified candidates to be considered for a role as Interim Director of Patient Safety and Infection Prevention. The successful candidate is responsible for the direction and oversight of the Patient Safety and Infection Prevention and control programs for a health system in the West Coast. He/She directs the development, implementation, and monitoring of these programs to maintain compliance with all applicable regulations, best practices, and standards. Administers the Patient Safety program and serves a key role in collaborating with senior leadership, clinical leaders, frontline staff, and other Patient Safety organizations to measurably enhance patient safety, reduce harm and errors, and consolidate coordinated efforts. This involves systematically implementing effective and reliable care practices, managing, and analyzing risk management data, as well as fostering a strong institutional culture of patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, direction, and oversight of Patient Safety and Infection Prevention department and staff. Provides tools and developmental opportunities for staff that are necessary for performance consistent with CHS’ mission and vision.
  • Provides leadership and direction to the organizational patient safety and Infection Control strategy and collaborates with the appropriate teams to implement innovations that eliminate patient harm.
  • Monitors literature and professional organizations for new or revised best practices related to patient safety.
  • Directs the development and review of necessary policies, procedures, and required reports within the Patient Safety and Infection Prevention departments’ purview.
  • Represents the service/program area with management, committees, and outside entities. Collaborates with other areas/programs or outside entities as necessary to support and enhance CHS’s mission and goals.
  • Ensures appropriate monitoring and evaluation of incidents, trends, and threshold information on various infections and patient safety related concerns.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures related to infection control and risk management. Ensures policies and strategies comply with applicable regulations, rating agency standards, and strategic imperatives of CHS.
  • Ensures appropriate processes are followed for identifying, reporting, investigating, and controlling infections and communicable diseases. Ensures appropriate completion of cluster and outbreak investigations and institution of control measures.
  • Prepares and maintains department budget for personnel, operating expenses, and capital equipment.
  • Directly responsible (with support from Human Resources) for employee engagement and people management processes including interviewing and selection, time and attendance approval, providing timely feedback and performance evaluations, employee development, employee retention, disciplinary actions, and terminations.

Education

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Completion of a 1-year Pharmacy Residency Program (PGY1) may be substituted for 3 years of experience as a Clinical
  • Pharmacist in an acute care facility

Experience

  • 3 years of experience as a Clinical Pharmacist in an acute care facility required
  • 5 years of experience in a leadership role in service/program area required
  • Proven experience in leading continuous improvement required
  • Training in Infectious Diseases/Infection Control and Prevention required

Licenses and Certifications

  • RPH - Registered Pharmacist with valid State of California Pharmacist License required
  • CBIC-CIC - Certified Infection Control required within 3 years of hire or transfer into position
  • CPHQ - Certified Professional Healthcare Quality preferred
  • CPPS - Certified Professional Patient Safety preferred
