Job Description

This is an interim role for approximately 56 weeks

The position is for an Interim Director of Interprofessional Practice and Deputy Chief Clinical Informatics Officer, who also serves as Chair (or Co-Chair) of the Professional Advisory Council (PAC) and oversees the Departments of Nursing & Nursing Education, Social Work (SW), Occupational Therapy (OT), Physical Therapy (PT), and Recreational Therapy.
This is an interim leadership role at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH), combining strategic oversight of interprofessional practice across allied health disciplines, clinical informatics leadership, PAC governance, and operational management of specified departments.


Reporting primarily to the Executive Vice-President, Clinical Operations and Chief Nursing Executive for all aspects of interprofessional professional practice leadership and operations, the Interim Director of Interprofessional Practice provides strategic and operational oversight to advance high-quality, evidence-based care across nursing and therapeutic disciplines (including Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Recreational Therapy).

In this capacity, the incumbent:
•Leads operational management and performance of the departments of Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Recreational Therapy.
•Chairs the Professional Advisory Council (PAC) to promote interprofessional clinical care, education, research, and quality improvement.
•Lead nursing-based ministry initiatives, nurse educators, and related senior management functions to address capacity, workflow challenges, and professional development.
•Supports nursing professional practice advancement, education, research, capacity planning, workflow optimization, recruitment/retention, and ministry initiatives, including oversight of nurse educators and related senior roles. Concurrently, as Deputy Chief Clinical Informatics Officer, the incumbent reports primarily to the Vice President, Chief Information and Cyber Security Officer for strategic clinical leadership in the planning, implementation, optimization, and governance of SJHH’s clinical information systems.

In this informatics-focused capacity, the incumbent:
•Serves as the key clinical bridge between physicians, nurses, allied health, IT, and executive leadership to ensure digital solutions support safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.
•Oversees clinical informatics governance, alignment with hospital priorities, Ontario Health standards, and regional integration.
•Champions data quality, interoperability, analytics, clinician adoption, change management, training, and optimization of digital health tools.
•Partners with the Chief Information Officer, Chief Medical Information Officer, Chief Nursing Executive, and other leaders to align clinical, operational, and technology strategies.
•Provides executive oversight for incident response, clinical risk mitigation (including downtime procedures and patient safety events related to health information systems).
•Represents SJHH in regional, provincial, and vendor forums on clinical informatics and digital health.

The role requires seamless collaboration across portfolios to integrate interprofessional practice with digital transformation, while fostering an inclusive, equitable, learning-focused environment aligned with SJHH’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
•Provide strategic guidance to advance interprofessional professional practice, education, and research across nursing and allied health within the Acute Care services portfolio and hospital-wide.
•Oversee operational leadership and performance of the departments of Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Recreational Therapy, including staffing, budgeting, workflow optimization, recruitment/retention, and alignment with organizational priorities.
•Lead nursing-based ministry initiatives, nurse educators, and related senior management functions to address capacity, workflow challenges, and professional development.
•Chair the Professional Advisory Council (PAC) to promote interprofessional clinical care, education, research, and quality initiatives.
•Drive clinical informatics strategy, including governance, system implementation/optimization, clinician engagement, and alignment with Ontario Health standards and regional integration efforts.
•Champion adoption of digital health solutions, data-driven decision-making, interoperability, analytics, and quality improvement to support exemplary patient care.
•Provide executive oversight for change management, training programs, and optimization of electronic health records and clinical systems.
•Collaborate on incident management, risk mitigation, and patient safety related to clinical information systems.
•Foster innovation, continuous improvement, and a culture of performance, accountability, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).
•Represent SJHH externally in informatics, digital health, and interprofessional forums.

QUALIFICATIONS
•Registered Nurse (RN) with current license in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
•Master’s Degree in Health Administration, Nursing, Health Discipline, Informatics, or a related field.
•Minimum 1–2 years of experience in clinical informatics, digital health, or technical/Health IT roles.
•Minimum 5 years of progressive management/leadership experience, with recent senior-level involvement in clinical operations, interprofessional practice, or therapeutics oversight.
•Proven track record in collaborative leadership models, aligning interprofessional teams, nursing professional practice, and clinical informatics with organizational strategy.
•Demonstrated success in fostering learning environments, supporting innovation, and driving continuous improvement for high-quality care delivery.
•Established reputation as a consultative, collaborative leader with strong coaching, mentoring, and team-building skills.
•Superior abilities in financial/statistical management, performance accountability, interpersonal relations, change management, oral/written communication, customer service, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
•Proven critical thinking, sound judgment, and decision-making skills, especially during rapid change or transition, prioritizing patient, family, and staff wellbeing.
•Experience with Lean processes or quality improvement methodologies is an asset.
