INTENSIVE ENGLISH INSTRUCTOR
(Temporary position starting May 18th)

Ministry: Migration & Refugee services
Primary Office: Manassas, VA
Hours per Week: 36- non-exempt
Starting Hourly Rate: $30.00
Staff Supervisor: Sr. Case Manager – Education Services
Telework Available: ___ No __x__ Hybrid (instructional preparation only)

The Intensive English Instructor will plan and implement intensive English courses for adult ESOL students. Courses will be 8 weeks long and be provided 4 days a week (Monday – Thursday) for 4 hours a day in Manassas from 8 AM – 12 PM or 5 PM – 9 PM. Up to 4 hours/day for instructional preparation will be available for instructors either on site or remotely. This role is contingent on grant funding.

Position Responsibilities:
• Prepare and deliver instructional materials.
• Conduct assessments and evaluations.
• Collaborate with volunteer instructors and coordinators.
• Assist with class coordination tasks, and student registration.
• Substitute teaching for other ESOL classes, when needed

Other Duties:
• Other job-related duties as assigned
• Attend team meetings.
• Willingness to uphold Catholic social teaching

Qualifications & Skills:
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 Office and other relevant software
• Effective communication and people skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
• Ability to evaluate situations, anticipate issues, and develop creative solutions.

Education and Experience:
• One or more years of experience working in a multi-cultural setting.
• Prior teaching experience with intensive English courses in person preferred.
• TESOL certification required.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must occasionally perform activities such as standing, walking, sitting, and using hands for various tasks. The employee will also need to engage in reaching, climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Effective communication is a part of the job, needing clear speaking and hearing abilities. Additionally, the position demands the ability to lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements are comprehensive, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These physical demands are essential for performing the job's functions and ensuring the employee can actively take part in all aspects of the job.
