Job Description

Job Type:

Regular

Plains is an industry-leading transportation and midstream provider specializing in transportation, storage, processing and marketing solutions for crude oil. We own an extensive network of pipeline transportation, terminalling, storage and gathering assets in key oil producing basins and transportation corridors and at major market hubs in the United States and Canada. The company is headquartered in Houston, Texas.

We’re on the lookout for passionate self‑starters who thrive in fast‑moving, collaborative, and innovative environments.

As an Integrity Engineer with five or more years’ experience, you play a critical role in protecting the safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance of Plains’ pipeline and facility assets across the United States. Based in our Houston head office and reporting to the Manager, Integrity, you take ownership of higher‑risk assets, lead advanced engineering assessments, and make decisions with direct business impact. You serve as a trusted partner to Operations, Engineering, and Regulatory teams while representing Plains with agencies and industry groups including DOT/PHMSA, the Texas Railroad Commission, API, AOPL, and PRCI. If you’re ready to apply deep technical expertise and shape integrity strategy across a broad asset base, this role puts you at the center of that work.

Our successful candidate will be eligible for company benefits including Medical/Dental/Vision coverage and paid time off.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and execution of Plains’ Integrity Management Plan (IMP) for assigned assets.
  • Serve as the primary integrity point of contact for an Operations Division and guide teams through complex integrity decisions.
  • Provide advanced engineering input on new construction, due diligence, and asset modifications.
  • Conduct IMP and regulatory audits and contribute to the development of integrity programs and procedures.
  • Teach integrity processes and coach team members at all levels.
  • Stay current on regulations, standards, assessment methods, repair practices, and emerging industry trends.
  • Participate in industry committees and contribute Plains’ perspective to technical discussions.
  • Perform advanced analyses including High Consequence Area (HCA) evaluations, risk assessments, and pressure cycling analysis.
  • Identify integrity threats, determine preventive and mitigative measures, and maintain risk data used for budget and planning decisions.
  • Provide engineering support for integrity projects, including welding calculations, material selection, hydrostatic test pressure determination, MOP/MAOP calculations, and defect evaluations based on ILI results.
  • Review NDT data for quality assurance and ensure findings are integrated into engineering decisions.
  • Analyze operational and integrity trends to identify risks, quantify business impacts, and recommend improvements.
  • Make timely, well‑supported decisions that balance safety, regulatory requirements, operational needs, and financial considerations.
  • Lead projects and collaborate across teams to remove barriers and advance integrity goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required; Metallurgy or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in areas such as DOT/PHMSA regulatory interpretation, pipeline inspection/testing, pipeline design and fabrication, or related integrity engineering work.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound engineering judgment and discretion in high‑impact decisions.
  • Deep technical knowledge applied to complex problems, regulatory requirements, and risk‑based integrity management.
  • Qualified to perform advanced activities including HCA analysis, EFRD evaluations, fatigue and fracture mechanics assessments, and other specialized integrity analyses.
  • Strong ability to set priorities, align work to business‑critical objectives, and communicate the operational and financial implications of engineering decisions.
  • Proven project leadership experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective collaborator who works constructively across departments and models professionalism in sensitive situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and maintain high standards of quality.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% to field locations and Operations Control in Midland, Texas
  • Cleared criminal history (background) check and satisfactory reference checks
  • Compliance with the company’s Drug & Alcohol Policy, including pre‑employment testing
  • Valid state driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the company and its insurers
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of employment; this position is not eligible for employment‑based visa sponsorship
