Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Waitaki District Council is developing automation and integrated systems that help us work more efficiently. Connecting our core systems so teams spend less time on manual processes and more time serving our community.

You will take ownership of Council’s automation and integration roadmap, working across new development, system integration and continuous improvement. Using Azure Functions, .NET, React and AI coding tools, you will deliver practical solutions that improve how Council operates and how our community experiences our services.

You will work alongside part-time development support and an external contractor. As Council’s automation and AI programme develops, you will help shape the standards and practices supporting future development.

This varied role provides insight into how a whole council operates. Water, roads, planning, property and community services all rely on the systems you will help build, giving your work a visible impact across the organisation and district.

He aha taau e kawe mai | What you’ll bring

The preferred candidate will have:

• Software Development Experience: Minimum three years’ software development experience, including integration work, with practical experience using .NET, Azure Functions and React, or a comparable modern front-end framework.
• Systems Integration Capability: Experience developing API-based integrations, real-time data flows or web services, and connecting systems to streamline manual processes.
• Qualifications: A relevant tertiary qualification in computer science, information science, engineering or a related field - or equivalent practical experience.
• Ownership and Problem-solving: The confidence to take ownership, identify improvement opportunities and turn organisational needs into practical, reliable solutions.
• Collaboration and Growth: A collaborative approach and an interest in shaping development standards as Council’s automation and AI capability grows.

Familiarity with agile development, AI coding tools, and local government or another regulated environment would be valued but is not essential.

Utu ā-tau | Salary

The salary for this position will commence between $91,669 and $113,959 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
