Job Description

The Integration Engineer – Journeyman serves as a mid‑level integration engineer responsible for ensuring that infrastructure services, data platforms, and user‑facing applications operate as a cohesive end‑to‑end system within a highly regulated federal client environment. The role focuses on designing and executing integration test strategies and automated suites to validate interactions among APIs, middleware, message queues, and event‑driven components across multiple environments. It also establishes and maintains integration environments that mirror production, implements continuous integration practices, and monitors integration metrics to drive system reliability and rapid defect resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain end‑to‑end integration architectures spanning infrastructure, data services, and user interfaces, with emphasis on APIs, message queues, and event‑driven patterns.
  • Develop and maintain automated integration test suites using industry‑standard tools and frameworks to validate cross‑system workflows and support repeatable, reliable deployments.
  • Implement and optimize continuous integration pipelines (e.g., Jenkins‑style, GitLab CI‑style, or Azure DevOps‑style) for integration builds, deployments, and automated validation across development, test, and pre‑production environments.
  • Configure and manage integration environments that accurately reflect production, including environment configuration control, test data management, and alignment of interface endpoints and credentials.
  • Troubleshoot complex integration issues by analyzing logs, tracing transactions across distributed systems, and collaborating with multiple teams to isolate defects in interfaces, transformations, and orchestration logic.
  • Document integration points, interface specifications, data mapping rules, and dependency matrices to support repeatable deployments, change impact analysis, and audit readiness.
  • Validate REST and SOAP API implementations against specifications and enterprise standards, including payload schemas, error‑handling conventions, performance expectations, and security controls.
  • Apply secure integration practices aligned to DoD 8140‑driven cybersecurity guidance, including approved encryption protocols, authentication mechanisms, and protective monitoring for interface traffic.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Approximately 4–7 years of hands‑on experience integrating complex software systems across environments, including CI/CD implementation and automated integration testing.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing integration tests for APIs, middleware, and message‑based or event‑driven architectures in a federal IT or similarly regulated environment.
  • Experience configuring and supporting integration environments that align closely with production, including environment configuration, interface endpoints, and credentials management.
  • Practical experience implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and integration automation using common toolsets and scripting approaches.
  • Must meet DoD 8140 requirements and hold an active Secret clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with enterprise integration platforms or ESB technologies (e.g., MuleSoft‑type, Dell Boomi‑type, or similar integration middleware).
  • Familiarity with message‑based and event‑streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka‑style, RabbitMQ‑style) in mission‑critical or high‑availability systems.
  • DoD‑recognized cybersecurity certification such as CompTIA Security+ or equivalent.
  • Experience working in highly regulated government or defense environments with formal interface control, change management, and compliance requirements.
