Optum are hiring an Integration Engineer for EPIC.

Careers with Optum offer flexible work arrangements and individuals who live and work in the Republic of Ireland will have the opportunity to split their monthly work hours between our Letterkenny office and telecommuting from a home-based office in a hybrid work model.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Capture, document, and translate business and user requirements into technical specifications
  • Design, build, and support HL7, FHIR, API, and file based integrations between Electronic Health Records, ERP platforms, and external systems
  • Develop and maintain interfaces using integration engines such as Cloverleaf, Rhapsody, and InterSystems Ensemble/IRIS
  • Configure message routing, transformations, filtering, and connectivity
  • Create and maintain interface specifications, mapping documents, and workflows
  • Conduct unit, integration, and end to end testing to validate data accuracy
  • Monitor interface queues and transaction logs and troubleshoot integration issues
  • Support integrations with HIEs, cloud platforms, SaaS applications, vendors, and registries
  • Design and implement integrations between ERP systems (e.g., Workday, Infor) and downstream systems
  • Configure secure transport protocols (VPN, TLS, SFTP) and ensure compliance with HIPAA and security standards
  • Collaborate with analysts, clinical users, and cross functional teams
  • Document technical configurations, SOPs, and support guides
  • Participate in on call rotation and support multiple U.S. time zones during U.S. business hours

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Extensive healthcare or enterprise integration experience
  • Proven programming or scripting experience (e.g., TCL, Python, Java, JavaScript)
  • Proven solid analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to be self directed, flexible, and willing to participate in a 24x7 on call rotation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven hands on experience with integration engines (Cloverleaf, Rhapsody, InterSystems Ensemble/IRIS or others integration engines
  • Proven Epic experience, including Epic Bridges, Care Everywhere, Epic interoperability modules, other Electronic Health Records Products
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HL7 messaging (ADT, ORM, ORU, DFT, RDE/RAS, RXE/RXA)
  • Proven experience with FHIR, APIs, and file based integrations
  • Proficiency with data formats such as XML, JSON, and CSV
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Workday EIB/Studio, Infor ION/OS, or similar vendor integration tools
  • Proven experience supporting cloud based and SaaS integrations
  • Proven exposure to healthcare academic projects or internships
  • Proven additional experience with modern programming or scripting languages
