About NAAFLS
NAAFLS is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation and the only victim-based Family Violence Prevention Legal Service operating in remote communities across the Top End of the Northern Territory. With offices in Darwin, Katherine and Nhulunbuy, we service over 40 remote communities, delivering culturally responsive legal representation in Family Law, Child Protection and Domestic & Family Violence.
Our unique holistic service model brings lawyers together with Aboriginal Client Support Officers and Case Workers—ensuring our clients are supported not just legally, but culturally and safely.
About the Role
The Intake Officer FVPLS plays an important role as the first point of contact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victim-survivors accessing NAAFLS services. Working within a culturally safe and healing-informed framework, you will support clients through intake, assessment, triage, and referral processes while helping reduce re-traumatisation and ensuring clients feel safe, heard, and supported from their first interaction.

Contribute to NAAFLS’ commitment to culturally safe and trauma-informed practice by ensuring every client interaction is respectful, empowering, and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victim-survivors.
About You
You are compassionate, organised, and committed to culturally safe practice. You understand the impacts of trauma and family violence and can communicate sensitively with people experiencing distress or crisis. You work well both independently and collaboratively and are confident balancing client support with accurate administration and record keeping.

North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service (NAAFLS) is a non-government Aboriginal organisation offering legal services and support to victims of family violence and sexual assault.
The primary focus of NAAFLS is to provide culturally appropriate assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults and children who are victims of domestic and family violence, including sexual abuse. NAAFLS works in accordance to the Family Violence Prevention Legal Services “Operational Framework”.
Services available to clients include:
• Legal advice and casework assistance in areas relating to domestic and family violence, care and protection of children, victims of crime compensation, family law, wills, superannuation, housing and debt management.
• Information support and referral services.
• Community legal education.
• Prevention of family violence initiatives.
• Law reform.
• Trauma informed counselling.
