New Horizons is the largest mental health and addiction recovery provider on the Treasure Coast (and beyond), serving 15,000 children and adults annually through inpatient crisis services, 24-hour help line and mobile response team, and outpatient programs conveniently located across Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties. In addition, New Horizons assists 22,000 students in area schools, and we work closely with the courts, law enforcement, jails, and hospitals to help improve the health of individuals and the quality of life in our community.

New Horizons is looking for an Inpatient Data Collection Specialist who will be responsible for gathering, entering, and verifying critical clinical and administrative data related to inpatient services. This position ensures accurate, timely, and complete data collection in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards. Working closely with medical, nursing, and administrative staff, the specialist supports quality assurance, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts by maintaining the integrity of inpatient data systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect daily inpatient data including admissions, discharges, diagnoses, procedures, and treatment information.
  • Accurately enter patient data into electronic health records (EHR), internal databases, and reporting tools.
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required clinical and operational metrics.
  • Review clinical documentation to validate diagnoses, medications, and service delivery details.
  • Identify discrepancies or missing data and collaborate with care teams for resolution.
  • Support compliance with internal policies and external data reporting requirements.
  • Assist in preparing standard and ad hoc reports for internal use, regulatory submissions and audits.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for inpatient services such as length of stay, readmissions, and occupancy rates.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and other applicable regulations regarding patient data privacy and security.

Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or coursework in health information, healthcare administration, or related field preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in healthcare data entry, medical records, or a similar role.
  • Familiarity with inpatient workflows and electronic health records (EHR) systems
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and data entry tools.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in hospital, behavioral health, or skilled nursing facility setting.
