About Blackbird Health

Blackbird Health is clinician-founded, owned, and operated by dedicated professionals. We believe that providing the best care for children starts with building the best possible team. We deliver virtual and in-person mental health services across Pennsylvania, Virginia, and New Jersey—and we’re growing into new markets in 2026.

At Blackbird, we take a whole-child approach, looking at how the brain, body, and behavior interact to address the root causes of challenges, not just the symptoms. Every role matters here, and you’ll join a collaborative, supportive, and innovative team that’s shaping the future of pediatric mental health care. If you’re passionate about helping children and families while growing your career, Blackbird is the place to make an impact.

Join us and help change mental health care for children for the better!

As a Child and Adolescent Intake Therapist at Blackbird Health, you'll play an essential role in delivering high-quality intake evaluations and ongoing therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults. You'll build meaningful connections with patients and families from the very start of their care journey, conducting thorough clinical assessments, developing individualized care plans, and providing consistent, high-quality ongoing treatment. You'll collaborate with our interdisciplinary team to ensure every patient receives seamless, whole-child care from their first session through their entire care journey. This remote role supports our patients' needs for afterschool, evening and weekend sessions. We are offering a sign on bonus for our founding providers.

What Makes You, You

  • Mission-Driven: You are passionate about transforming behavioral health for youth and committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care.
  • Clinically Excellent: You are an experienced clinician using evidence-based assessment and therapeutic practices with a passion for working with children, adolescents, young adults and their families. You strive for the highest clinical and technical quality in everything you do.
  • Relationship-Focused: You excel at building meaningful connections with patients and families from day one and sustaining those relationships over time, taking the time to understand their needs, provide education, and create a trusting therapeutic relationship that supports long-term engagement in treatment.
  • Developmentally & Neurodiverse-Informed: You are skilled in conducting clinical assessments and delivering effective psychotherapy across developmental stages and neurodiverse populations, tailoring your approach to meet each patient where they are.
  • Collaborative: You thrive in team-based environments and love engaging with other healthcare professionals and families to ensure patients receive the right care at every stage of their journey.
  • Growth-Oriented: You are open to feedback and eager to learn and grow in a supportive clinical community where best practices and professional development are prioritized.
  • Tech-Savvy: You are comfortable using technology, including Google Suite, Electronic Medical Records systems and other virtual platforms to deliver seamless care.
  • Flexible & Patient-Centered: You are willing to go the extra mile when working with families, with the flexibility and willingness to reschedule patients when needed.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Deliver High-Quality Intake Evaluations: Lead individual telehealth intake sessions for youth ages 2–26, using evidence-based assessment practices tailored to each patient's developmental stage and unique needs.
  • Provide Ongoing Therapy: Build strong, consistent therapeutic relationships with patients over time — delivering individual evidence-based therapy and adjusting treatment plans based on ongoing assessment of patient progress.
  • Build Meaningful Connections: Spend the necessary time with patients and families to truly understand their experiences, educate them about therapeutic approaches available at Blackbird, and provide a warm, supportive entry point into care that carries through their entire journey.
  • Drive Strong Clinical Matches & Progress: Conduct thorough assessments and develop individualized care plans that ensure each patient is connected to the right treatment approach — then see it through by monitoring progress and adjusting as needed.
  • Collaborate for Integrated Care: Engage with clinicians, medical providers, and families to create coordinated treatment plans that address the whole child. Participate in optional weekly clinical consultations to enhance your clinical skills.
  • Maintain Clinical Excellence: Maintain thorough intake and ongoing documentation and patient records. Strive for the highest clinical and technical quality in all aspects of your work.
  • Partner with Families: Involve and advise family members and outside specialists when appropriate throughout the care journey.

The Basics You'll Need

  • Independently licensed as a LPC, LMFT, LCSW, or PsyD/PhD in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, or New Jersey.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working with children and adolescent patients
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working in a telehealth or virtual setting
  • Own your own phone, computer, and high speed internet

Blackbird Health

About Blackbird Health

Blackbird Health offers virtual and in-person mental health services for children and young adults across Pennsylvania and Virginia, with plans to expand to new markets in 2025. Our services include comprehensive evaluations and assessments, medication management, and therapy services.

Our whole-child diagnostic approach reveals the full story behind each child’s challenges, allowing us to address both the symptoms and their underlying causes. By looking at a complete picture of what is impacting a child's wellbeing, Blackbird Health provides precise care that leads to lasting, meaningful outcomes. Grounded in deep respect for each child, empathy for all parents, and compassion for every family, we help children, teens, and young adults face their mental health challenges so they can spread their wings and fly.

The unique Blackbird Health assessment begins with a thorough evaluation that takes into account all factors contributing to a young person’s mental health and development—including speech and language, genetics, behavior, cognition, psychology, and more. We apply a developmental lens to every aspect of our evaluation, recognizing that mental health concerns must be understood within the context of a child’s developmental stage. This leads to more complete diagnoses and understanding of causes. Together with the family, we then create a treatment plan aligned with their goals. Once the plan is agreed upon, we match each child with the right provider and sequence care to build effectively over time.

Ongoing care is at the heart of what we do. We stay closely connected with families through regular check-ins to monitor progress and make adjustments as needed, ensuring continuous growth.
