Purpose and Vision Statement

The Tacoma Rescue Mission (TRM) is a faith-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to support all people - including clients, volunteers, community partners, and staff - to become their best. We provide emergency services such as shelter and meals to neighbors experiencing homelessness. Job Purpose

Oversees the intake process for incoming shelter guests and supports strong communication within the team to address all guests’ needs. Shares the responsibility to maintain a safe, clean, hospitable, and dignifying environment for all guests; assisting in the provision of trauma-informed, person-first, and grace-based services to meet the needs of all who seek TRM’s care.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Greets all guests, residents, volunteers, donors, and team members warmly, creating a welcoming environment that fosters healthy relationships.
  • Completes intake procedures and all necessary assessments with new guests, providing them with appropriate resources.
  • Completes new profiles in database, maintains complete files until transferred to case management, provides necessary documents to the Data team, and ensures confidentiality.
  • Supports safety for shelter guests by ensuring shelter protocol is followed by all guests.
  • Fulfills all reasonable requests from guests, ensuring their comfort and satisfaction.
  • Continually researches, gathers, and gains knowledge of community services and resources to assist shelter guests.
  • Offers general front office support (answers phone calls and assists guests) and performs general cleaning tasks.
  • Communicates with team through internal staff log in the database and other methods.
  • Completes regular walkthroughs of the shelter and campus, reporting incidents or work requests when necessary.
  • Collects shelter supplies, organizes, and maintains inventory, informing management of needed items.
  • Performs turnover of resident quarters (unit/bed), cleaning and sanitizing the area and doing all necessary laundry.
  • Administer urinalysis and breathalyzer tests for shelter guests as needed.
  • Embodies the values that form our culture to meet the organization’s mission of sharing God’s love, hope, and support with our neighbors in need to uplift communities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support others and ensure an efficient and effective work environment.

Working Conditions

Interacts in a relational manner with people from diverse backgrounds. Office environment with light custodial duties.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Social Services or a related field or equivalent working experience.
  • Experience working with or serving alongside marginalized communities.
  • Basic operating knowledge of office equipment, computers, and Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Good clerical skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Effective de-escalation skills and ability to maintain a compassionate and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work in and effectively respond to a fast-paced, high-stress environment with little supervision.
  • Capacity to accomplish multiple tasks within a short time.
  • Skilled in clear and effective written, verbal, and electronic communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment using effective and thoughtful interactions and communication.

Physical Requirements

  • Stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. and responds to urgent situations.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Communicates information and ideas so others will understand. Exchanges accurate information in these situations.
  • Observes details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Frequently moves boxes weighing up to 25 pounds across office for various needs.
  • Wears proper PPE (personal protective equipment) when necessary for exposure control.

Notes Regarding Hiring Process

  • In order to be considered, applicants are required to provide a complete chronological resume including all work history along with dates of employment (month and year) and job responsibilities, education, and certifications. Please note that salary considerations for selected candidates will be based on related experience detailed in the resume provided via the application process.
  • Hiring Salary Range: $21.44 - $23.57 hourly
  • Full Salary Range: $21.44 - $25.92 hourly
