About the opportunity

Join the University of Sydney as an Insurance Manager and play a pivotal role in driving insurance strategy and outcomes that protect the University’s people, assets and operations.

In this role, you will lead the management of the University’s general insurance program (excluding workers compensation). You will apply your professional judgement and expertise to oversee insurance activities, including the annual renewal program, and act as the key point of contact for insurance matters across the University.

You will work closely with our broker, insurers and stakeholders across the University to deliver high-quality outcomes while continuously improving insurance processes in a dynamic and complex organisation.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • partner with stakeholders across the University to successfully coordinate and deliver the annual insurance renewal program through to approval and completion
  • build and manage strong relationships with brokers, insurers and loss adjusters to effectively oversee claims and achieve positive outcomes
  • provide clear, practical and client-focused advice on general insurance matters, supporting informed decision-making at all levels
  • analyse insurance and risk data to uncover trends, generate insights and support proactive risk management
  • monitor and manage broker performance against contractual requirements and KPIs, ensuring high-quality service delivery
  • champion continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen insurance practices and enhance overall effectiveness.

About you

  • tertiary degree in a relevant discipline
  • hold a valid National Police Check
  • minimum 7–10 years’ experience in insurance management within a large organisational setting, ideally in higher education
  • strong understanding of insurance markets, policy structures and claims processes
  • experience strengthening organisational insurance capability, including delivering training and awareness initiatives
  • ability to interpret complex policies and translate them into clear, practical advice
  • excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships.
