Job Description

Location: Gulf Coast Region (Onsite)

Duration: Initial 6-Month Contract with Potential Extension
Requirements: Valid/Current TWIC Card Required

We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation Engineer to support the execution of minor capital projects within a large-scale industrial operations environment. This role will be responsible for managing projects from concept through commissioning, while serving as the technical lead for instrumentation design, field execution, and system integration activities.

This position is ideal for someone with strong hands-on instrumentation experience who can also drive project execution in complex operating facilities within the oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, or heavy industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead small to mid-sized capital projects through the full project lifecycle, including scope development, design, execution, startup, and project closeout.
  • Develop and review instrumentation engineering deliverables including:
    • Instrument data sheets
    • Loop drawings
    • Wiring diagrams
    • P&IDs
    • Technical specifications
  • Perform field evaluations and collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to define project scope and execution requirements.
  • Prepare project estimates, Front-End Loading (FEL) documentation, and supporting materials for project funding approvals.
  • Specify, evaluate, and coordinate procurement of instrumentation equipment including:
    • Control valves
    • Pressure transmitters
    • Flow transmitters
    • Level instrumentation
    • Field sensors
  • Oversee field construction activities, contractor coordination, installation support, loop checks, system tie-ins, and commissioning efforts.
  • Support integration of instrumentation systems with DCS, PLC, and industrial control systems.
  • Ensure all project activities comply with applicable safety standards, site procedures, and Management of Change (MOC) processes.
  • Provide regular project updates, technical reporting, and communication to engineering, operations, and project stakeholders.

Required Experience

  • 5–10+ years of instrumentation or project engineering experience within oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, refining, pipeline, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Field instrumentation
    • Control valves
    • Pressure, flow, and level instrumentation
    • DCS/PLC integration
    • Industrial process controls
  • Experience supporting brownfield or operating facility projects highly preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced operational environments while coordinating across multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong technical communication, reporting, and project coordination skills.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in:

  • Instrumentation Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Related Engineering Discipline

Preferred Background

  • Experience supporting capital projects in LNG, gas processing, refining, petrochemical, or pipeline operations environments.
  • Familiarity with industrial commissioning, startup activities, and plant maintenance coordination.
  • Previous experience working in active operating facilities with strict safety and MOC requirements.
