Project Overview:

Mining and Metals:

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will perform Control Systems and Instrumentation design activities for assigned project areas. You will prepare and review design drawings, 2D and 3D models, technical documents, material quantity take-offs, and assigned material requisitions in accordance with established project requirements, Bechtel procedures, design standards, and applicable codes. You will coordinate your work with engineers, designers, suppliers, construction personnel, and other disciplines to support safe, reliable, constructible, and cost-effective designs. The role may include instrumentation, control systems, communications systems, and associated infrastructure, depending on the assigned project scope.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Applying established Control Systems and Instrumentation design methods, procedures, standards, codes, and criteria to assigned project work.
  • Preparing 2D design drawings and assigned portions of 3D models using approved CAD applications.
  • Preparing and maintaining design deliverables such as I/O lists, instrument schedules, control-system block diagrams, architecture drawings, cabinet layouts, interconnection diagrams, and installation details.
  • Reviewing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams to confirm instrumentation, control, and interface requirements within the assigned scope.
  • Supporting the definition and selection of instruments and control valves by preparing data sheets, schedules, drawings, and material requisition documentation based on established engineering requirements.
  • Preparing and checking discipline material quantity take-offs, bulk-material estimates, material lists, and assigned material requisitions.
  • Preparing or updating communications-system and fiber-optic infrastructure drawings when included in the assigned project scope.
  • Reviewing and checking assigned drawings, models, calculations, and supplier documents for completeness, accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinating assigned design activities with engineers, designers, other disciplines, suppliers, construction personnel, and client representatives, as directed.
  • Participating in design reviews, constructability reviews, model reviews, site investigations, and control-system testing activities, as assigned.
  • Responding to routine design questions within the assigned scope and coordinating issues requiring engineering interpretation with the responsible engineer.
  • Compiling and maintaining design files, drawing records, calculations, and supporting documentation in accordance with project procedures.
  • Providing technical guidance to less-experienced designers and drafters when assigned and contributing to a collaborative, safe, and continuous-improvement-oriented work environment.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficiency in Control Systems and Instrumentation design practices applicable to industrial or Mining and Metals projects.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and checking design drawings, diagrams, schedules, material quantity take-offs, and technical documentation.
