The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) internship provides an opportunity for students who are currently pursuing an I&C tech role to get hands on experience working with District Energy. There is a special focus on end-to-end solutions combining heating and cooling systems or Energy Utilities and managing customers' steam production, cooling, compressed air, vacuum, and power networks. As an I&C Intern you will be called upon to support a variety of I&C activities. This Includes troubleshooting PLC’s, HMIs, and electrical sensors as well as calibrations and installation. This is a part-time, temporary, non-exempt position and reports to the Maintenance Supervisor in Philadelphia, PA.
Responsibilities
• Assist with troubleshooting, replacing, and calibrating electrical sensors including: photoelectric, inductive, capacitive, pressure, temperature, and position sensors
• Read and understand control system design documents including: P&ID, control system schematics, wiring drawings, I/O lists, SAMA diagrams, pneumatic and hydraulic drawings, and written design specifications
• Working alongside and shadowing I&C Technicians on all daily tasks and providing assistance as needed with equipment
• Daily meetings with plant staff to provide updates on progress
Basic Qualifications
• Currently enrolled in a technical program
Preferred Qualifications
• Ability and willingness to learn plant and steam, distribution systems, operations, and maintenance activities
Other Qualifications
• Basic knowledge of electrical circuits
• Time management, organization and prioritization capability, communication and organizational skills
• Safety conscious, able to follow direction, and have a curious attitude
• Motivated and dynamic person with ability to work independently and part of a team
• Technically oriented
• Resourceful and proactive
• Self-starter
Physical Requirements
• Must submit to company required pre-employment physical exam and drug screening
• Ability to move heavy equipment and carry materials up and down stairs
• Ability to climb in and out of confined spaces including manholes
• Candidates should be able to lift and maneuver a 50-lb load
• Ability to work in high noise level areas and wear noise reduction equipment for short periods of time
• Ability to work in areas of elevated temperatures for short periods of time
