Job Title: Instrumental Music Teaching Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY

Chadwick School seeks a talented, enthusiastic, and nurturing educator to serve as an Instrumental Music Teaching Assistant for grades 4–12.

In this role, the assistant will collaborate with the lead instrumental music teacher across rehearsals, sectional coaching, concert preparation, and student retention efforts. This is an ideal position for a skilled musician looking to gain broad independent school experience and contribute to a thriving arts program.

ASSOCIATED RESPONSIBILITIES

• Instructional Support: Assist the lead instrumental music teacher during rehearsals, sectionals, and concert preparation for grades 4–12.
• Classroom & Student Support: Assist with classroom management and address individual student needs, including tuning instruments and replacing accessories.
• Ensemble Leadership: Lead individual, sectional, and full ensemble rehearsals as needed.
• Student Retention & Engagement: Foster an inclusive, encouraging environment that inspires student participation and a love of music.
• Performances & Events: Participate in school concerts, performances, and select evening rehearsals throughout the year.
• Department Collaboration: Work alongside performing arts colleagues to build a cohesive music program across all divisions; attend relevant department and faculty meetings.
• Program Operations: Maintain instrument inventory, manage materials, and communicate promptly and professionally with families, students, and staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCES, AND SKILLS

• Strong musicianship and proficiency on multiple instruments are required.
• A bachelor's degree is required, preferably in music, music education, or a related field.
• Experience teaching or leading instrumental music instruction with elementary-aged children is strongly encouraged.
• A warm, patient, and engaging presence with young students is required.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English are required.
• Experience working within a music program is preferred.
• An interest in growing professionally and gaining experience across multiple areas of school life is preferred.
• A collaborative, flexible, and student-centered approach is preferred.

Compensation $40.00 - $60.00 hourly - based on experience and qualifications

Position Type: Part-Time (no more than 20 hours/week, Monday-Wednesday (11:00 am - 3:00 pm) and Thursday (8:00 am - 1:30 pm), with occasional evening rehearsals and concerts

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

• Required to lift and carry up to a maximum of 25 lbs., in a correct manner consistent with the appropriate training provided by the School.
• Occasionally required to use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, touch and use tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, grasp, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, grasp, talk, hear, and walk during the course of employment.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and an ability to adjust focus.
• May use telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment in the course of a day.
• Required to sit while operating word processing equipment for several hours daily, repetitive motion for typing and other keystroke needs.
