JOB POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Instrument Technician services, troubleshoots, and maintains utility equipment across site facilities, including instrumentation, electrical, high purity water, compressed air, steam, chilled water, glycol, city water, and sewer systems. This role provides advanced technical expertise in process instrumentation, diagnosing complex problems and performing preventative and corrective maintenance to keep systems in compliant operating condition. The technician partners with the Supervisor and Planner/Scheduler to develop and improve job plans and procedures and supports craftspeople across multiple trades while demonstrating strong customer service and safety practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Diagnoses and repairs complex process instrumentation issues, including temperature, pressure, flow, pH, conductivity, TOC, and control valve systems, to restore equipment to operating condition and minimize downtime.
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance, calibration, and new installations or modifications of process instrumentation across utility systems, including high purity water, compressed air, steam, chilled water, glycol, and sewer systems.
  • Interprets P&ID drawings and mechanical schematics to troubleshoot equipment issues and support job planning.
  • Partners with the Supervisor and Planner/Scheduler to develop and improve job plans, procedures, and performance objectives that align with organizational and corporate priorities.
  • Maintains cGMP compliance by following approved procedures and documenting all work in accordance with Good Documentation Practices.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and tolerate outdoor exposure to varying temperatures in both summer and winter conditions. Willingness to respond to call-ins and work scheduled overtime is required.

  • Education Level: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in instrumentation, electrical, utilities maintenance, including systems such as high purity water, compressed air, steam, chilled water, glycol, city water, and sewers
  • Certifications: N/A
  • Licenses: Valid driver's license required
  • Language Requirements: Must be able to speak, read, and write English at a level sufficient to communicate technical and business information effectively

ADDITIONAL SKILLS/ PREFERENCES:

  • Associate's degree or Technical Certificate in a mechanical discipline, or equivalent experience; applicable military service training may be an acceptable alternative.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing production environment or related maintenance field.
  • Prior work with a regulated industry; FDA regulated industries preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills troubleshooting equipment failures with minimal downtime.
  • Proficient in using a CMMS (e.g., Maximo) or other work order tracking system.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret mechanical prints/schematics and follow written maintenance procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Shift Information: Scheduled for 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday; temporary shift changes may occur. Work includes exposure to hazardous conditions within Utilities such as acid, steam, caustic substances, high pressure, and high temperatures, and requires personal protective equipment at all times.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is

$21.27 - $41.25

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
