Job Description

Audubon is currently seeking a skilled and experienced Instrument Engineer to join our dynamic team in Lake Charles, LA. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with field instrumentation design, specification, and selection. As the Instrument Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing instrument design, implementation, and troubleshooting activities for our clients' industrial processes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Areas of Responsibility will include:

  • Support onsite Project Team in development of design packages. The design packages generated for projects will include installation, startup, and operating procedures, manuals, and technical drawings for the applicable contract and proprietary maintenance forces, ensuring proper project implementation.
  • Lead and manage instrument and controls integration projects from concept to completion, ensuring successful implementation within specified timelines and budgetary constraints.
  • Collaborate with clients and project stakeholders to understand system requirements, design specifications, and functional objectives.
  • Develop instrument system architectures, including hardware selection, design, and configuration.
  • Conduct system testing and commissioning, including functional testing, loop checks, and performance validation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex instrumentation issues, working closely with field technicians and other project team members.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Prepare detailed project documentation, including technical specifications, user manuals, and as-built drawings.
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and advancements in instrument technologies.
  • Work with Maintenance, Operations, Environmental, Business and other manufacturing site disciplines as needed to address their long-term instrument needs. Provide recommendations for appropriate solutions.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for the position:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in control systems integration and programming.
  • Extensive experience with field instrumentation is preferred.
  • Solid understanding of industrial control system architectures, communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC), and HMI/SCADA systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and other engineering drawings.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong project management and leadership abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must be eligible to work full time in Lake Charles, LA.
