Job Description

Nexus Engineering Group is hiring a senior Instrument, Electrical & Control (IEC) Engineer to support a long-term assignment at our client's chemical-processing facility in Deer Park, TX. As the IEC discipline expert on site, you'll lead the design, integration, and commissioning of electrical and instrumentation systems on complex, higher-value projects — owning your scope from concept through handover. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with Project Managers, contractors, and client stakeholders, with the autonomy to drive technical decisions and the visibility to shape how projects get executed.

What You'll Do

    • Lead electrical, instrumentation, and control system design — including specifications, diagrams, hardware/software integration, and component sourcing.
    • Oversee installation, configuration, calibration, and commissioning of field instruments and control systems through handover.
    • Conduct risk assessments, ensure code and RAGAGEP compliance, and implement safety protocols on every project.
    • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and serve as the go-to resource for resolution.
    • Identify and own opportunities for process optimization, system upgrades, and reliability improvements.
    • Prepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation — specifications, test results, maintenance records, and user manuals.
    • Partner with Project Managers, engineers, technicians, contractors, and client stakeholders to deliver on schedule.
    • Represent the discipline as an SME in internal and external industry forums.

What You'll Bring (Required)

    • 5–10+ years of experience as an Electrical or Instrumentation Engineer (or similar role) in industrial engineering design, with delivery responsibility through construction and commissioning.
    • Demonstrated experience leading IEC scope on cross-functional project teams, including technically complex or higher-value projects.
    • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent professional experience) in Engineering, Automation, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
    • Proficiency with SAP, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and AutoCAD.
    • Ability to drive and walk within an active chemical-processing facility and to work in both office and plant environments with required safety dress code.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to communicate complex technical subject matter to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to Have (Preferred)

    • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Controls, or a related discipline.
    • Prior experience in chemical processing facilities.
    • Working knowledge of automation systems, including PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and HMI.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license or other recognized industry certifications in a relevant discipline.
