We’re a leading retail, industrial and energy business, and we’ve been helping Australians reach their destination for more than 120 years.

Our plans for the future support Australia’s energy transition to sustainable, lower carbon energy solutions. Through our acquisitions of Coles Express and OTR, we provide Australians with outstanding convenience.

At the heart of our plans is people power. People who want to grow and evolve with us. People with new perspectives, energy and passion to drive Viva Energy and their careers forward.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Instrument & Electrical Asset Engineer to join our Reliability team at the Geelong Refinery.

In this role, you will act as a key technical advisor to our Asset teams, serving as the primary point of contact for Instrument and Electrical engineering support. You will play a critical role in maintaining plant reliability by responding to equipment issues, supporting breakdown events, and developing condition-based repair and replacement strategies.

Responsibilities

  • You will partner closely with Asset and Maintenance teams to deliver:
  • Technical troubleshooting of instrument and electrical systems.
  • Incident investigations, applying RCA and other structured methodologies.
  • Compliance management across instrument and electrical safeguarding systems.
  • Project delivery, leading small plant changes and representing Asset teams on larger capital projects.
  • Maintenance optimisation, including development and execution of maintenance interventions and Turnaround scopes.

Qualifications

You are a proactive and collaborative Instrument or Electrical Engineer with strong communication and coordination skills, and a passion for improving asset reliability.

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Tertiary qualified in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or Electronics Engineering.
  • Ideally experience in oil & gas, or heavy industry, or manufacturing environments.
  • A working knowledge of instrument and electrical assets, including maintenance and fault finding.
  • Experience with RCA or similar problem-solving methodologies.
  • The ability to prioritise effectively, manage competing demands, and deliver on commitments.
  • A commitment to accountability and continuous improvement.

Professional registration as an Electrical Engineer is desirable but not essential if you are actively working towards it.
