Job Description

The Yale School of Medicine, Section of General Internal Medicine, and Department of Internal Medicine are seeking an exceptional Clinician-Educator to join the core faculty of the Yale Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program and help pursue the residency program’s mission of training future leaders in primary care, clinical excellence, and advancing health equity. This full-time position offers substantial protected time for developing innovative clinical, educational, and scholarly initiatives, along with opportunities to take on key leadership roles in the residency program.

We seek to recruit individuals with a strong commitment to general internal medicine with a focus on inpatient medicine who are enthusiastic about complementing this with outpatient clinical work. Opportunities exist to serve in leadership roles, including Firm Chief (inpatient unit leadership) and/or Associate Program Director (APD) responsibilities.

The successful candidate will have opportunities to teach across a variety of undergraduate and graduate medical education settings, mentor learners at all levels, and engage in scholarship aligned with their interests. We are especially seeking individuals who can help expand our faculty research portfolio in areas such as medical education, health policy, social justice, AI/medical informatics, or other relevant fields. Mentored support is available to help faculty grow into leadership and scholarly roles.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be an experienced and compassionate general internal medicine clinician-educator with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, teaching and mentorship.
  • Have a demonstrated aptitude or experience in inpatient medicine, leadership roles such as Firm Chief or Associate Program Director, and/or quality and safety leadership training that enhances the program’s mission.
  • Exhibit a commitment to advancing health equity and integrating advocacy into clinical and educational work.
  • Show potential for or have a proven track record in scholarly work, particularly in areas such as medical education, health policy, climate justice, social justice, AI/medical informatics, or outpatient procedures.
  • Be eligible for appointment at the Instructor, Assistant, or Associate Professor level.
  • Have prior experience as a clinician-educator or chief resident, which are highly valued for this role.
