Job Description Summary
Responsible for delivering workforce and customized industrial training courses for local industry partners. This position provides hands-on and classroom instruction in machining, blueprint reading, GD&T, quality systems, manufacturing processes, and machine shop operations. The instructor works closely with college staff and employers to support workforce development initiatives and ensure training aligns with industry standards and employer needs. This is a project-specific position available only from August 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027.
Duties
1. Delivers classroom and hands-on pre-hire assessment and training, and post-hire specific technical training in machining and manufacturing fundamentals, blueprint reading and interpretation, GD&T, quality and inspection processes, basic 5S and lean manufacturing concepts, machine shop safety and operations, precision measuring tools and gauges, and set-up and layout procedures.
2. Creates and adapts curriculum, teaching materials, activities, and assessments to meet industrial client needs, while incorporating technology into instruction.
3. Ensures the accuracy of training documents and evaluations in accordance with NC Edge and NCCC standards.
4. Acts as a subject matter expert and is fully committed to pursuing additional training opportunities that align with organizational needs.
5. Assists with training equipment procurement, setup, utilization, and maintenance.
6. Assists with training scheduling according to client needs and schedules.
7. Collaborates with coordinators, adjuncts, and contract trainers.
8. Demonstrates flexibility in providing instruction in all programs.
9. Keeps accurate inventory and submits materials and supplies requests. Exercises stewardship of college resources and facilities.
10. Maintains the equipment to ensure it meets safety standards and readiness for instructions and a secure campus environment.
11. Assists with promoting programs through events, tours, and community engagement activities.
12. Contributes to the College Vision, Mission, Values, and R.I.S.E. statement.
13. Supports diversity in all aspects.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements (Applicant must meet all of the minimum requirements)
1. High school diploma or its equivalent .
2. Three years of full-time or equivalent work experience in a combination of industrial/manufacturing operations, equipment maintenance in an industrial business setting, or training in a higher education environment.
3. Experience with CNC and manual machining processes, Blueprint reading and GD&T, Precision measurement and inspection tools, Lean manufacturing, and 5S principles
4. Work experience using Microsoft Apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive), Adobe, as well as instructional technologies.
5. Training or workforce development experience.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Associate’s degree
2. OSHA certifications.
3. Work experience or training in CNC, CNC programming, and manual machining operations.
4. Industry certifications related to machining, quality, or manufacturing.
5. Experience working with employer-sponsored or customized training programs.
6. Two years of full-time or equivalent teaching experience.
7. Experience with Solid Works, Inventor, or CAM software.
8. Welding or brazing experience.
9. Proficiency in a foreign language such as German, Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.
