The Paediatric Palliative Care (Quality of Life) is a specialised service within the Department of Oncology for children with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses and their families. It provides inpatient, outpatient, telehealth, and home-based care focused on pain and symptom management, psychosocial support, communication, advance care planning, care coordination, and bereavement support. It advances paediatric palliative care in Pakistan and the region through clinical excellence, education, research, quality improvement, and advocacy.

Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Instructor (Paeds Palliative) in the Department of Oncology.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for:

  • providing inpatient and outpatient paediatric palliative care consultations and follow-up services
  • participating in multidisciplinary care planning and family meetings
  • supporting advance care planning, goals-of-care discussions, and end-of-life care where appropriate
  • collaborating with paediatric subspecialty services and community healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care
  • participating in educational activities within the department and teaching undergraduate medical students, residents, fellows, nursing staff, and allied health professionals
  • providing mentorship and supervision to residents and fellows rotating through the paediatric / palliative care services
  • contributing to curriculum development and educational activities in paediatrics and palliative care
  • organizing, participating and teaching in departmental and institutional CME/ workshops/ seminars/ courses and Public Awareness activities
  • participating in the department’s administrative committee
  • participating in departmental meetings, committees, and institutional quality initiatives
  • supporting the development and growth of paediatric palliative care services within the institution
  • palliative care services within the institution
  • participating in clinical research, quality improvement, and scholarly activities related to paediatrics and palliative care
  • contributing to publications, presentations, and dissemination of research findings
  • participating in national and international academic medical education conferences and symposiums
  • contributing to examinations, assessments, and accreditation activities as assigned and appropriate to academic rank.

Requirements:

You should have:

  • MBBS degree with a valid PMDC license
  • FCPS/MRCPCH/American Board certification or equivalent qualification in Paediatrics
  • completed structured postgraduate training in Paediatrics from a reputable institution
  • experience in Palliative Medicine/Paediatric Palliative or end of life care from a reputable institution is preferred
  • excellent clinical, teaching, and training skills
  • strong procedural skills and ability to provide quality and safe patient care in diverse settings
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • ability to build strong patient relationships and maintain patient satisfaction
  • empathy and commitment to patient-centered care
  • ability to work in multidisciplinary teams with cultural sensitivity
  • interest in academic, research, and quality improvement activities.
