The Mathematics Instructor will play a vital role in the Mathematics Program at Huston-Tillotson University, teaching a diverse range of courses. This position requires the creation of an engaging and supportive learning environment that caters to both traditional and non-traditional students. Faculty members are expected to teach with enthusiasm and integrity, upholding the mission of the University. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to urban undergraduate education, actively engage students in research, and bring experience in program development and curriculum enhancement.


TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a high-quality, competitive, and up-to-date educational program by preparing teaching assignments and presenting course material that is current, challenging, and thought-provoking.
  • Deliver both theoretical and practical subject matter to students.
  • Develop comprehensive syllabi and outlines for each course taught.
  • Encourage and support undergraduate research in mathematics through course-based projects.
  • Hold at least 10 office hours weekly to provide student support and guidance.
  • Advise and mentor mathematics students, fostering their academic and professional growth.
  • Assist with student registration and actively participate in regularly scheduled and special departmental and college meetings.
  • Serve on standing committees as requested by the Department Chair, Dean of the College, Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, or President.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Department Chairperson, Dean of the College, Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, or President.



Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A graduate degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education, with a minimum of 18 graduate-level credit hours in mathematics courses.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Proven potential for excellence in classroom teaching.
  • Proficiency in online communication, including email, learning management systems, and online homework platforms.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sensitivity to academic and cultural diversity, fostering an inclusive learning environment.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the University's mission and vision.

SUPERVISION

  • This position reports to the Chair of Mathematics Department

SALARY RANGE

  • $45,000 annually and a comprehensive fringe benefits package.

  • Full-time; In-person.
