Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.
Job Duties
Primarily provide inpatient-based for 10–18-year-olds admitted with to the TCH Adolescent Unit with malnutrition and other medical complications of eating disorders
One weekend rounds/month with inpatient team
Monday through Friday morning rounds with the inpatient medical team including seeing patients and writing notes in tandem with residents
Some overnight call from home
Evaluate and treat some patients in clinic depending on inpatient census
Orient new residents on the monthly adolescent medicine rotation to the inpatient adolescent medicine eating disorder service
Do admission contracts with new admissions from clinic and EC
Write admission orders for new admission
After daily formal rounds with the medical and nutrition team, summarized treatment plans with nursing staff if they were not part of the work rounds
Arrange clinic follow-up with patients in the TCH Adolescent Medicine outpatient program or other program as appropriate
Obtain adolescent specific histories and perform physical examinations on new patients and patients in hospital.
Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic tests
Prescribes pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts
Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
May participate in QI and research projects as time allows
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Required: Master's degree in in Nursing.
Experience Required: Preferred three years' experience in a clinical setting with adolescents
Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP), and specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
For Physician Assistants: Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies. NOTE: Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies accepted based on terminal degree requirements at the time of graduation.
For Physician Assistant: Current license as a Physician Assistant by the State of Texas Physician Assistant Board. Specialty certification as required by department.
