The Department of Philosophy at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for a full-time Instructor in Philosophy. This is a full-time teaching position. The successful candidate should have broad and thorough training in philosophy, enabling them to teach primarily PHIL210: Ethics and PHIL201: Introduction to Philosophy. Additional areas of expertise of particular interest include the philosophy of artificial intelligence—especially language and AI—as well as feminist philosophy.
Position Responsibilities:
• Teach four philosophy classes per semester
• Design, administer, and grade assignments and final examinations that align with course learning outcomes. Hold office hours
• Service to the department
• Participate in the academic life of the department
Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Philosophy
• Demonstrated teaching skills
• At least five years of relevant professional experience of teaching at the higher education level.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
• Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS) and relevant educational tools
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion.
