
The Middlebury College Summer Italian School announces an opening for a temporary Instructor of Italian. The position is available during the summer 2022 session, located at the Bennington College campus in Vermont. Our unique program combines a cultural immersion environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction. This is an opportunity to join a community of learners, by actively engaging in teaching, dining, residing and recreating with students while reading, writing and speaking exclusively in Italian.
This course provides classical singers of all levels (voice undergraduate, graduated, MA and PhD) the opportunity to work on vocal technique style and skills of the classical singing actor in a concentrated immersion environment. It is also open to those without formal training who would like to gain basic knowledge and skills for good singing technique. This workshop includes private and group lessons in vocal technique as well as rehearsals with pianist and voice faculty. Weekly labs will focus on musical interpretation and on learning opera scenes. All participants who wish will perform in a final concert. *All the participants who attend all the sessions and perform in the final concert will receive an official certificate and grade.

TECHNIQUE:
· Study in deep and develop well-coordinated breath support, also with breathing mirror check
· Singing with consistent, accurate intonation and bright sound
· Focusing on registers, vocal tone, vibrato, vocal health
· Voice homogeneity and balance
· How to make your voice sound more powerful focusing on resonance and support
· Work on dynamics, embellishments
· Vocal Use, Abuse, and Care
· Diction for singing
REPERTORY AND INTERPRETATION
· Italian repertory from different time and periods
· Focusing on baroque, classic, romantic and verismo differences of style, interpretation and difficulties
· Preparing Opera scenes, art songs, duets, trios and ensembles (depending on the number and level of students)
· Contemporary music, how to face the big challenge
FOR BEGINNERS:
· It is requested the ability to read music, a heathy voice and the capacity to match pitch and sing in tune
This position is for the summer 2022. In addition to the salary, lodging and a complete meal plan will be provided.
