Job Description

As a Group Fitness Instructor at The J, you are the energy, the heart and the soul of our classes. You offer memorable, motivating experiences and workouts to help our members achieve their fitness goals. With over 150 classes offered a week, you have the opportunity to instruct a variety of group fitness formats.

We are currently seeking Instructors for:

Pilates Mat and Barre classes with evening availability

LES MILLS certified instructors with midday, evening and weekend availability - any format (BodyBalance, BodyCombat, BodyStep, Strength Development)

You will be known as a friendly, inspiring face around the J. Every class you teach directly impacts someone's day.

The Group Fitness Instructor provides cutting-edge group fitness instruction through a variety of entertaining, educational, and fun classes, promoting fitness and positive self-esteem in a safe environment. They act as a fitness resource for class participants, and they maintain positive relationships with members to encourage continued class attendance. The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for consistently meeting daily class attendance goals as well as effectively promoting The J’s programs, events, and services.

Essential Functions

  • Provide safe, effective and fun workouts to members and participants
  • Develop positive relationships with class participants by teaching a variety of challenging and entertaining group fitness classes
  • Educate class participants on correct form and alternative moves during the fitness routine
  • Attentively listen to members, answer questions, and engage in conversation before and after classes
  • Maintain safe and attractive group fitness room
  • Provide current music for each class that entertains and motivates while ensuring appropriate language
  • Promote The J’s promotions, programs, events, and services while specifically encouraging participation for Group Fitness classes
  • Begin and end classes on time
  • Project a professional image through dress and performance

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience teaching in a group fitness environment is a plus
  • Maintain appropriate certifications and CPR/AED Certification
  • Ability to perform exercises specific to the assigned class
  • Ability to display an enthusiastic, outgoing and friendly demeanor
  • Ability to teach multiple classes including back-to-back classes
  • Be available to substitute on an on-call basis

Physical Requirements

  • Stamina to perform the exercises specific to assigned classes, including back-to-back classes
  • Constant talking, hearing, eye/hand/foot coordination
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting at least 25 lbs.
  • Occasional pushing/pulling at least 25 lbs., stooping/crouching

The Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City ("The J"​) opened in 1914 in midtown Kansas City, Missouri, and has grown and adapted to serve the changing needs of Greater Kansas City's Jewish and secular communities.
