Job Description

The Instructor will join the Department of Pediatrics at Georgetown University as a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty member, contributing directly to the translational research, scholarship, and technological advancement missions of the Thrive Center for Children, Families, and Communities. Serving as the Technology Director of Thrive Innovation—the Center’s dedicated division for digital health and instructional technology initiatives—the Instructor will bridge academic theory with applied engineering. The candidate will be responsible for leading the systematic translation of faculty-led research into evidence-based digital solutions, managing technical and strategic frameworks for cross-sector innovation, and driving scholarly inquiry into the efficacy and deployment of emergent technologies in early childhood, pediatric mental health, and disability care. The Technology Director will provide rigorous academic, strategic, and technical co-leadership for Thrive Innovation. The Instructor will co-lead the venture formation and development process within the Thrive Studio, establishing evidence-based evaluation criteria to prioritize which digital interventions the Studio pursues. They will co-direct the methodology for market research, design scientifically grounded go-to-market strategies, and orchestrate the academic business development frameworks required to scale and validate new ventures. The Instructor will serve as the principal investigator for solution design and functional prototyping within the Thrive Studio, translating clinical and pedagogical insights into digital architectures. They will provide specialized technical consultation to Center faculty exploring novel digital technology initiatives, ensuring that emerging interventions are grounded in robust technical and data-security standards. The Technology Director will actively contribute to securing extramural research funding, federal translation grants, and strategic philanthropic capital. Deeply integrated into the university’s scholarly fabric, the Instructor will collaborate with cross-disciplinary faculty, staff, clinicians, and community stakeholders to advance innovative methodologies in pediatric care. The Instructor will design and deliver academic webinars, workshops, and lectures focusing on healthcare innovation and the field deployment of emergent digital technologies. Finally, they will contribute to broader university-wide innovation panels and actively cultivate cross-disciplinary, collaborative research partnerships with other academic units, including the McDonough School of Business and the Georgetown University Medical Center.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Master’s or Doctorate degree in a relevant field including computer science, engineering, psychology, or neuroscience; a doctorate is preferred. Candidates must demonstrate extensive experience in software design and development with specific expertise in the use of large language models and AI. A record of leadership in entrepreneurship and business development is required. Candidates must also demonstrate a track record of building and leading engineering teams to deliver innovative technology solutions. A track record of securing independent funding and a strong record of partnership across different stakeholder categories are required. Experience and knowledge of the fields of early childhood, mental health, and disability care through a combination of professional and personal experience is preferred. Experience with community-engaged partnerships, including community-engaged research, and a commitment to culturally responsive, equity-informed work are strongly preferred.

The projected salary pay range for this position is $215,000-$240,000, which represents the full range of anticipated compensation for this position. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors
