Outdoor Education Instructor

£28,724 - £32,040 pa (JNC 11 – 14) plus London Weighting Allowance of £3,605 pa

36 hours per week (plus some evenings and weekends)

A rare opportunity to join our experienced team at one of the UK’s most long established and successful Outdoor Education Centres

This opportunity would suit a dynamic Outdoor Educator with an interest in learning outside of the classroom. Fairplay is passionate about Outdoor Education using activities as a tool for personal, social and group development. Growth mind-set and building resilience are the foundations of our work.

About Us:

Fairplay Outdoor Education Centre is owned by the London Borough of Newham and is based near Witham in Essex. We are currently looking for a Tutor/Instructor/Outdoor Educator to work with and support the team.

Fairplay OEC offers a wide range of land and water-based activities for schools, businesses, youth groups and clubs. Fairplay House is situated in a spectacular and inspiring 12-acre parkland garden less than an hour’s drive from London and offers a large range of tailored, flexible Outdoor Education Programmes to children. The house has residential facilities for up to 79 pupils and 8 staff.

The Centre has a wide range of Outdoor and Adventurous Activities such as climbing, abseiling, high ropes, zip wire, high swing, caving, environmental studies, beach combing, orienteering, sailing, canoeing, kayaking and raft building to groups of mostly primary age children who stay with their teachers.

About You:

You will enjoy working with children in the outdoors and will have a minimum of two National Governing Body Qualifications covering a range of outdoor pursuits and fieldwork activities including:

• Zip Wire

• Giant Swing

• Mountain Biking

• Archery

• Orienteering

• Caving

• Sailing/Canoeing/Kayaking (desirable)

• Climbing/High Ropes (desirable)

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
