The Instructor will actively participate in clinical spinal and neurosurgical research programs, supporting innovative investigations that advance patient care, scientific discovery, and academic scholarship.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security.
Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
Track record of productivity with peer-reviewed publications.

Responsibilities:
Research - Conducts research as outlined with minimal supervision in funded and proposed grant applications under the direction and mentorship of the Principal Investigator or Collaborators. Develops or modifies research protocols and collects background information for ongoing and future experiments and grant projects. Troubleshoots new and existing experimental approaches and makes recommendations for research refinement and protocol development.
Research Record Keeping, Documentation and Safety - Maintains proper records of experiments in detail. Documents all experimental results including photos where appropriate. Maintains a safe work environment and safety training. Maintains all necessary records for equipment, maintenance, use, etc. (this may include service contracts and scheduled maintenance visits).
Research Presentation – Prepares publications and presents data in written and oral presentations. Participates in preparing grant proposals and assists the Principal Investigator in these duties. Proficiently prepares and processes new research proposals and amendments according to institutional and departmental policies, procedures and federal regulations. May participate in periodic site visits from sponsor agencies, regulatory authorities and others to review research, source documentation and research procedures.
Other Duties - Attends seminars and meetings as instructed or suggested by the mentor/supervisor. Performs related duties as required by the Principal Investigator and by UAMS. Duties may be assigned by management associated with this position that are determined to be within the incumbent's knowledge, skills and abilities.
Salary Information:
Commensurate with education and experience.
